Hi @misstrendy - My S was admitted too and he is so excited. Did you find out anything about financial aid yet?
Nothing yet. Was told by financial aid that we’ll hear end of March beginning of April. Congrats!!
@CCRcounselor I interviewed the same day as your daughter and I was deferred as well. Has she heard anything else from the school?
Was your s notified by email or snail mail?
@kems67 He was notified by email. But a day or two before the email, he noticed a request for a deposit popped up on his portal. Good luck to everyone still waiting!!!
Thank you @HappyMom4. She interviewed in January and received the letter stating she was still being considered. But we haven’t heard anything since. She is in high school there and UNCSA is her first choice for college. Waiting is tough.
I was in the January interview group and then got an email in early February that said I was in contention for acceptance. Does that mean I’ve been deferred or waitlisted?
Unfortunately we were not eligible for any financial aid and we knew that all along.
Our son is a freshmen in UNCSA’s School of Film. Gen Ed classes are in the morning and your afternoon’s and evenings consist of your film classes and required screenings. Ideally, students get on film crews which takes up a chunk of their weekends. So, while there is not much down time, students are immersed in a field they love and they are working daily with other students who share their passion for film. I hear that sophomore year is slightly less intense so that students can focus on their second-year films. My son loves UNCSA! Feel free to ask me any questions.
@csggirl - Thank you so much for the info. I know my S would love it. We are just waiting for the financial aid packet to make a final decision. If I can think of any more questions, I will definitely be back in touch. Thanks again!
What do you mean by section?
They don’t differentiate between deferred and waitlisted (from what we were told).
Hey! @uncsastudent I just got accepted to UNCSA <3 I totally love the school but have some dumb questions that I’m just curious about. Is there a party scene at all? Do students drink a lot? Not at all? What’s the dating/hookup culture?
@uncsastudent and @pjar21 At what point do you get to narrow down to 2 concentrations to choose between? Which are you considering?
@HappyMom4 @uncsahopefulmom @ready2launch @mayajanie1 I can answer these questions!
@HappyMom4
So for schedule, I’ll list out my fall semester so you have an idea for what to expect:
You’ll have 2 liberal arts classes that meet either 3 times a week for an hour long each, or meet 2 times a week for 1.5 hours long…
Physics: 9-10am (MWF)
English: 10-11am (MWF)
Film classes take over the rest of your schedule:
Monday:
Directing: 2-5pm
Tuesday:
Cinematography: 2-5pm
Production Design: 6:30-8pm
Wednesday:
Producing: 2-4pm
Screenwriting: 7-9:30pm
Thursday:
Editing: 2-5pm
Short Film: 7-10pm
Note:
- I didn’t have any film classes on Friday, but depending on your section, your schedule may vary.
** If you decide to crew (which you are required to do at least once), you'll have a weekend + Monday where you're on set for 12 hours each day. Some productions go from 6am-6pm Saturday, Sunday, and Monday - but it depends on the call time and location. If you have classes on Monday you typically are able to get out of crewing, or you may have to return to set after classes - it's situational.
@uncsahopefulmom
Sections simply divide the incoming class into smaller groups so class sizes aren’t huge.
My current class (first years) have 5 sections. They are randomly picked and have nothing to do with skill, talent, etc.
Students in the same section share most of the film classes together, although some classes like Short Film combine the entire grade so for us it was all 75 students in Main Theater.
@ready2launch
At the end of first year, students pick 2 concentrations they want to focus in for second year. Everyone technically gets in to the concentrations because the end of the year portfolio review doesn’t really affect what classes you take in your second year.
However at the end of second year, students have to apply to get into their first choice discipline.
Congrats!!! We’re excited to have you. Because everyone’s schedules are crazy here, there is not a big party scene - however that doesn’t stop people from having a good time. Occasionally some parties will pop up, and people definitely have weekends of drinking but if you’re crewing and working hard on not just school work but outside-of-school projects, you will find very little time for crazy partying.
One of the biggest things that shocked me when I got here was how much people smoke and how comfortable people were about talking about doing drugs, etc. Don't get me wrong, every school has their party/drug/dating scene, and I personally haven't really encountered people doing drugs in person. But I've heard stories... As for dating / hookup culture it's a pretty small school, so if drama unfolds in relationships you can expect most of the school to hear about it one way or another... for that reason while there are students in relationships on campus, I find that a lot of people are using tinder and other apps to find people not at this school. One piece of advice I will definitely give you that is passed by many here is don't sleep your way up the ranks. Meaning don't try to use relationships to earn your way on sets - people will not respect you.
Sorry for late responses but I hope my answers have helped. Please let me know if you have any other questions I am happy to answer.
For those who have been accepted and or are current students what’s the typical financial aid package for UNCSA? My son just got his updated on the portal and it’s nominal at best. No work study even which is surprising. Any info you can pass along is appreciated.
@misstrendy financial aid is out already? Which portal is it on?
It’s on the EZ arts page as of yesterday. Under the financial aid tab.
@misstrendy is your son a current student at UNCSA? It’s not letting me log onto the EZ Arts portal- it says my PIN is invalid.
No he’s an incoming freshman. It’s this page. https://ssbprod-uncsa.uncecs.edu/pls/NCSAPROD/twbkwbis.P_GenMenu?name=homepage
Then Enter secure area. Then input ez arts ID and PIN
