Is it better to apply to colleges with an undecided major?

I haven't really thought about it. I want to major in pyschology and my mom said it would be better to apply undecided since so many people want to major in pyschology and how they might run out of room and reject me.

Uh.. I don't know if there is truth to her statement. I'm confused. Help?

Are you applying to elite schools? I know in some cases, schools are more yielding to certain applicants because of their intended major. However, I don't believe most are going to discriminate with what you offer. If you're not really sure if you actually want to major in psychology, though, then leave it undecided.

I want to go to UCI.

I didnt think there would be alot of demand for a pyschology major. I guess that s probably because pyschology is the last thing I would want to do.

So, if I put in that I intend to major in psychology, is it necessary for me to have background knowledge about psychology ?

What if you want you to major in a biological science, but your transcript isn't very big on AP Sciences ? Aren't colleges more stringent on science/engineering/economics type of majors ?

pygmalion, no you do not have to have psych background. and colleges are aware that many if not most students change their major once they get to school.
