Daughter is still trying to make a decision regarding schools. Seems to have narrowed selection down to three schools.

Her top two choices are Villanova and Penn State-University Park both have pretty good business programs for a marketing major. Villanova offers smaller classes and the professors really get to know the students, however it is the most expensive option. PSU's business school has more resources, larger alumni base for internships and better job placement after college, however the average class would be larger. I think she will do well regardless of the campus setting.

James Madison University is primariliy under consideration only because it is a state school, with in-state tuition. The business school has an okay reputation.

Any thoughts for her to consider in making her decision would be greatly appreciated.

I think Penn State would be the best choice. Its true that classes are large, but they tend to get smaller as you get more specialized in your major. Its the general courses/lectures that are super large. I was concerned about this too, but psu has so many opportunities & I think I’ll really enjoy myself there. I’m not familiar w/ james madison, but villanova is a good school too. You just have to ask yourself would you rather pay more money for smaller classes/better professor relationships or would you rather go for the cheaper school that has more resources ect but you’ll have to deal with the major drawbacks of a large state university for about the first two years. For me, despite large class sizes (& i come from a very small high school), penn state’s pros were what helped me to make my decision between my top schools.

Bump. Daughter is still undecided.

You never stated if money is an issue or not; but if it’s not, go PSU. Then JMU. I’m in VA too. =)

Made the trip back to Villanova for accepted students day yesterday. It really helped daughter to make a final decision. While the candidates day was really well done, daughter has decided to attend Penn State-University Park in the Fall.

Thanks for the input/comments.

If you don’t mind saying, what helped her make the final decision to attend psu? I have also decided to go there, but it is always nice hearing why other people are going :)

Supportive,

I’m glad your daugther choose Penn State. Coming from a business major, ktpsu20’s response was 100% correct.

livelaughlove26 - Daughter was leaning somewhat towards Penn State before the trip to Villanova, she just wanted to be certain. Some of the things that factored into her decision was the reputation of the business school, the resources available to students, the school atmosphere when she visited, and the alumni network didn’t hurt either. She just felt that Penn State was more of a college town and better fit.
