I have been accepted into UP for Petroleum eng. Fall 2017. But on my offer letter it says I have been accepted in to the college of earth and mineral sciences(undecided). When I called them up they said, the major will be declared only after 2 years, is that true?

In the College of Engineering students are not admitted to the specific programs until junior year. Energy and Mineral Engineering is in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences; it sounds like they do the same thing.

You declare your major when you have 4th semester standing. Usually that is at the end of 2 years. If you come in with advanced standing (AP credits, transfer credits) it may occur in your first year. You’ll get an adviser in your intended major and follow an appropriate schedule for the major. Everyone has to meet the entrance to major requirements (GPA, prerequisite courses) at the time of declaration.
