I just got accepted to the college of earth and mineral sciences...but Im kind of having a heart attack...did it not. Say my meteorology major because I didn't get into that program? Or do you declare it later on??? Helpppp

@jwestbrook, first off, congrats!! And second, from people I’ve talked to that haven’t been accepted to their major, they weren’t automatically placed in another major. They’ve told you weren’t accepted to that major, and given you the option of changing it. I don’t have facts on it, but I’m pretty sure. Also, I know that for Penn State you do not even really declare a major til the end of your sophomore year. However, you can always call to verify!

Congrats! My understanding is that all students officially declare their major at the end of sophomore year, as sop said. Certain majors/programs have a specific GPA requirement that you must obtain in order to gain entry into them.

jwestbrook12 - you don’t declare your major until end of sophomore year. I looked up Earth & Mineral Sciences undergraduate degrees and you can major with a BS in Meteorology. here is the link: [Prospective Undergraduate Students - Degree Programs | Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences](What Can I Study? | Penn State College of Earth and Mineral Sciences)
CONGRATS!!!

actually slightly wrong info I just gave - my daughter, who is a sophomore, just declared her major in the beginning of January. But you will take classes that will count towards your major throughout your freshman and sophomore years.

Thank you guys got scared!

There are also a few majors (like Arch Engr) that you declare at the end of your freshman year, so just check it out! ;)
