Under-represented states

<p>In my Georgetown chances thread, I was told that being from TN may help me in the admissions process since not many people from TN apply (while there are many highly reputable schools in the metro areas, the rest are.......not) Is this true? Prestigious schools like this are a reach for anyone, but do schools really fill "state quotas" so to speak?</p>

<p>Residence is sometimes used as a factor in admissions, yes. I'm sure it will vary depending on schools though.</p>

<p>Yeah, that will help you, but not significantly. I mean, if you have like 1900 SAT scores, being from TN won't get you in. But if you're still a very competitive applicant and it's either you or someone with equal stats from, say, CA or NJ then you'd probably get in over them.</p>
