Undergrad B-school vs. Econ Degree

this is just ridiculous. these two schools aren't even in the same league. I don't care what you want to do--medicine, business, law, philosophy, mathematics, whatever else you can think of--Georgetown is a) a better school and b) offers better career opportunities than ASU. Its just that simple. This has nothing to do with ibanking or consulting. Comparing these two schools is like comparing a team in the NBA to a team in the developmental league. They aren't in the same league. Argue all you want, but really think about which school you would rather have on your resume. Would you seriously choose ASU over Georgetown?

By brining up Oregon, i am trying to show that there is a only a small portion of students that desire ibanking, even with a school that is trying to stimulate interest. Although it may be a rather poor example, i believe it demonstrates (somewhat) what i am trying to say and counter act the belief that everyone is striving for certain jobs that this forum obessess about. I used Oregon as an example because i know practically nothing about ASU's new ibanking workshop and what past alumni are doing to encourage and/or help.

Maybe the students there aren't interested because firms don't even recruit there for IB.

Most IBanks- Target schools around the REGION....although for instance the London office (of a BB) will target INSEAD in France (only two hours from London), or SAID (Oxford). Most of you are thinking of the corporate headquarters, the creme de la creme. They'll recruit at schools like Cornell, Stern etc. Because of a closer proximity (to NYC). ARIZONA is worlds apart. You should not bring down the quality of the b-school at ASU though--last I checked the financial principles are not changing in the textbooks and your primary objective with education should be gaining knowledge. Although, you will have trouble at THE corporate headquarters...there are offices in San Francisco, Pheonix, LA that offer I-banking and very nice salaries- so a better comparison in my mind- WOULD NOT BE A DIFFERENT LEAGUE- but would be the Warriors (ASU- an up and coming ball cub) compared to lets say a Dynasty (G-TOWN) who has been the top of their game for years.

^^well put. I am not familiar with the quality of education at ASU (since I don't go there). I was only speaking of reputation in the business world.

For me, ASU is my state school. Tempe's a very safe and chill college town- and in terms of prominence, ASU is on the up and up. Google just put a new location on the campus; this was cause for much excitement.

...but for someone like me, who has plans on getting a job rather than going to grad school, a school that is on the up and up is outweighed by a school like Georgetown that is established.

gosenheim thank you for your post about ow Gtown>ASU. Glad to see someone is in touch with reality and isn't in some bizarre self-denial.

yes its wonderful considering no one ever said ASU was better than Gtown.
