I just want you guys to recommend me some undergrad schools that would best fit my level of learning as of now. Being from NYC I hope NYU is the end goal, but I heard Villanova is pretty solid and underrated as well. Anyways, what are some nice schools within these averages of mine and a few possible reaches:
3.5 gpa
1500 sat
34 act
good ec’s but not exceptional. I have internships and over 400 hours of work along with a team but that’s nothing special.
I would add Villanova, Wake Forest, Lehigh, Richmond, William & Mary, UNC- CH. They and the previous schools listed (except PENN) are all peer schools. Your test scores are great. Your GPA is low for any of these schools but they all consider much more than that.
Sounds to me like you prefer urban/suburban east coast options. I like all of @rickle1 suggestions and might add Fordham (both Rose Hill and Lincoln Center have business programs although LC is more limited – since you are close you can visit both) in NYC BU, Bentley, BC in and around Boston and if you are willing to travel further south I’d also add Tulane.
^^^ Good additions. Might also consider Northeastern and Babson if Boston is a draw. Bentley is making major progress in becoming a top UG business school.
You said in another post that your GPA was an 87. That is not a 3.5 – what is your GPA weighted/unweighted?
If finances are an issue consider some SUNY schools as well (ex. Binghamton, Buffalo, Albany New Paltz)
Some general advice: Honestly assess academic stats (including GPA, standardized tests, course rigor) as well as your financial needs and apply to a wide range of reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable (you will have to run a net price calculator for each school you consider) and that you would be happy to attend. There are many wonderful schools out there where you can have a great 4 year experience and get where you want to go in life.
Yea my GPA is a 3.48 unweighted, and to be honest I was panicking when I typed up my last post lol. Anyways, yea I’m definitely leaning towards the east coast due to costs, however if I do get a nice deal/value in away from this area, I would 100% consider it. I will also be applying to Wash U. in St. Louis because my brother graduated from there, however it is unfortunate that my GPA will most likely get me rejected from their. Babson and BC are also very great choices that I have been looking into. My college counselor told me VIllanova is extremely underrated, as Bloomberg News has them as high as #1 on undergrads for business.
NYU is very much affordable I think, not to mention extremely close so no dorms for me. Furthermore I am most likely going to be going to grad school very far down the line, and NYU is also the dream for that (business school). There is no doubt that my grades are poor for these exceptional institutes, but I am hoping that my essays can send the message that I have matured and clearly have the potential to be groomed to their standards. (as proof of my test scores).
Anyways, should I hit NYU with an ED? Or use that spot for a reach like Wash U?
Up to you where you want to use your ED. I believe NYU also has ED II (but double check).
Look at Naviance from your HS to get an idea of where you stand.
Rickle1, Yea those would have been my goals if my GPA was even .1 higher. All very nice schools, but for the most part, aside from my top test scores, I would have to convince them that they can bet on me. Luckily I am a above average writer in my opinion, but even then it will be a hard-cut job.
also rickle, thanks for the additional suggestions, will add! My sat is in the 50-60th percentile for many of the schools like Georgetown, UNC, Virginia, and even into the 80th percentiles for some of these others. Not to mention my GPA trends upwards over the years. Need all the things I can get going my way lol.
yea been hitting NYU up on naviance a lot these days. Their ED is Nov 1, and many of my stats give me a 35-45% chance I think at least. Wash U’s ED is same date. GPA is obviously lower than needed, but not too significant. SAT and ACT are great for all of my apps, (50th percentile at least everywhere so far, mostly 65th-70th percentiles.)
But other places like Virginia and Georgetown give me around a 6-10% chance according to Naviance. I firmly believe I can get a 94 in 1st semester senior year tho, so that’ll help.
Fisher College of Business at Ohio State University. They have the national Buckeye scholarship worth over $12,000 a year and often times combined with another merit award between two to four thousand a year. Highly ranked business school.
thx for the help guys, great to know I’ve added a few more schools to the research. I’m confident I’ll have a fresh start in a nice place. I can’t wait to stay solid in terms of GPA in college now that I’ve learned the hard way. Good thing SAT scores stay for your future, because I know for a fact that I have the assets.
