Quoted For Truth

In addition to the lists that Allorion posted (Finance, Accounting, General Management), there are also lists for International Business, Real Estate, Marketing, Quantitative Methods, Management Information Systems, Entrepreneurship, Operations Management, Supply Chain/Logistics, and Insurance.

The one thing I've noticed about all the top schools is that they rank high on many of the lists. For example NYU ranks in 11 of the 12 categories and the rankings are 2,2,6,6,6,7,9,9,11,15, and 16. Indiana ranks in 10 of the categories and the rankings are 6,6,7,7,7,9,9,11,12, and 12.

I presume this applies for two reasons--first, many students change majors from one business area to another, and second, to be good in business you need a good education in all disciplines involved--and of course, a great education in your chosen field.

is the finance list only 10 schools or is it longer? thanks allorion for posting the lists i really appreciate it edit sorry allorion i saw your post of the whole list in another thread, thanks a lot

Wow..Indiana Kelley is ranked top 10 in almost everything.

I think Indiana University ranks in the top 12 in ten different categories. Many of the top schools rank high in at least 5 to 7 different categories.

is going into international business even worth it? like i feel i really like the field but it doesnt seem like there are any jobs out there.

international business can't be learned sitting in a lecture hall, its only offered as a co-major in the top b-schools. you have to pick something more concrete as your major such as finance, management, information systems, marketing... otherwise you conjecture is true, you will have a hard time finding respectable work with an international business degree.

Am I mad or is Dartmouth (Tuck) not even included in the initial post, which launched this extremely enlightening thread? I'm lifting the following post from another source here on CC, but I was wondering if someone could address my confusion or possibly even double-check the data.

"HANOVER, N.H. - The Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth returned to the winner's circle as the #1 business school in this year's Wall Street Journal/Harris Interactive ranking, up from #3 last year. Tuck also took the top honors in 2001 and again in 2002.

According to the Journal, "These rankings measure how appealing the schools are to recruiters—the buyers of MBA talent. The survey is based on opinion and behavior of 3,267 MBA recruiters who were asked to rate schools with which they had recent recruiting experience."

The top five schools include Tuck, University of Michigan, Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern University, and Yale University.

Forbes August 2005

Forbes ranked Tuck #1 in the magazine's biennial ranking of MBA programs in the U.S. and abroad. The survey compared 111 schools according to the return on investment students can expect from attending their MBA programs."

How does one explain the vast inconsistencies between the sources I have presented and the most current U.S. News ranking regarding Tuck's status and prestige?
