Parent of a high school junior...he thinks he wants a future in the business world, maybe accounting...not sure of exactly what specialty in business.

Opinions needed please...go to a 4 year liberal arts college and then get a masters in business, or go to a college with an undergrad business program and then most likely he'd still need a masters in business, correct?
Which path? Which leads to a great job? There are many schools of thought on this one. Please advise if you can!

For accting you just get a five year master's degree. You need to go to a decent undergrad business school for that. Unless you can get into a Top 10-15 undergrad you will be better off with a good business undergrad school.

for a real good job, an undergrad business degree, a few years work experience and an MBA would be a great route as well. But thats not necessarily the case, Business grad schools are opened to all students regardless of undergrad major, so your son should really concentrate on something he likes in undergrad, being that management positions can always be obtained through graduate business school.

If he really wants accounting, he definitely has to major in accounting for undergrad. A masters would not be necessary but at a minimum, he will want to take the necessary graduate courses to qualify for CPA. A 5 year degree sounds great, but if the school doesn't offer that it is not a necessity.

Other areas of business don't require that you major in that area, but personally if you want to do business, why not study business? You can certainly get into graduate business school regardless of what you studied in undergrad (just need some good post-graduate work experience).
