If I were going in to college, would it be more beneficial for me in the long run to obtain a business degree or an engineering degree? If you are to say business, would you recommend marketing or finance, taking into account job security and salary?
What do you mean “long run”? Engineering degrees come out of college w/very high % of job offers and the highest salaries. Certainly some people bypass them in mid career as they tend to plateau – but frankly, you should pursue what is most natural to you – that’d be my advice. You’re apt to change careers several times, anyway.
Get a BS in engineering, work for a few years, and go back to school to get an MBA. It’s also a great path to consider.
If you do not actually like engineering, or are not good at it, you will likely get weeded out of it in school. Engineering differs from many other academic majors and career paths in that much more of the weeding occurs in school relative to weeding in the job market. The often-better job prospects at graduation for engineering majors tends to reflect the curriculum weeding out the weaker students before graduation.
How much of an increase, on average, does an engineering MBA give, in regards to salary? And which engineering field has the highest salary?
