Undergrad courses?

I'm currently a freshman at MIT, and although I came here with the intention of studying chemical engineering, I'm really interested in applying to veterinary school after I graduate. I realize that MIT offers no type of pre-vet undergrad courses or majors, so I was wondering what courses I should take, or major I should declare if I want to increase my chances of acceptance to a vet grad school.

You should check the admissions section of the websites of the veterinary schools that interest you to determine the undergraduate prerequisites. Although the requirements vary from school to school, at a minimum most vet schools will require 1-2 semesters of biology; 1 semester of microbiology; 2 semesters of inorganic chemistry; 1-2 semesters of organic chemistry; 1 semester of biochemistry; 2 semesters of physics; 1 semester of genetics; and 2 semesters of English composition. Other common requirements include calculus or statistics, animal nutrition, animal anatomy/physiology and courses in the social sciences or humanities.
