My top choice school is currently University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
My original plan was to get my undergraduate degree in marketing, minor in either English or creative writing (still debating) and then get my graduate degree in advertising. The career I want to get into is copywriter.
Is this a good idea? Should I switch to an undergrad and graduate in advertising, is that even possible? I’m just not sure.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, I know very little about how colleges work.
Advertising is a subfield of marketing, and most of the time the graduate degree you’d get wouldn’t be advertising - it’d be marketing. There are a few MS degrees in advertising, but an MS in marketing or an MBA would probably be the more versatile and valuable degree on the job market.
That said, your original plan is fine. But you could do either - major in marketing or major in advertising. UIUC has both: marketing is under business and advertising is under communications. It’s totally up to you.
