Hi,
I was wondering if it's possible to get my undergrad degree(as well as premed) in the UK, and then come to the US for grad school. I was born in the UK, and live in the US currently. I have dual citizenship. But, I wanted to go to the UK for undergrad, but then actually attend a US med school and practice medicine over here. Is it possible?

I know that UK universities have med school/undergrad as one straight course almost, but I was wondering if I could just major in any science related field.

US med schools have requirements in a set of pre-med courses (generally, one year each of biology, physics, math/calculus and English writing and two years of chem [intro + organic]), and sometimes they will want a few non-science courses too. It will be hard to fit all these into a UK degree, which is often quite rigid and has few electives, especially not in non-science subjects. (for example a UK Biology degree will probably not have a year’s worth of physics in it, and little room to take non-science courses) I’m not sure if the Scottish system, where AFAIK you study three subjects in the first year, would help.

US med school admissions also often have (physical) interviews - flying to and fro is going to be quite troublesome and I’m not sure how accommodating they are w/ regards to phone/video interviews etc.

Several colleges and universities in the US run post baccalaureate pre-med programs. In addition to offering the pre-med science series, these programs provide intensive assistance with med school applications. If you really want to go to the UK for your undergrad degree, a year or so enrolled in a post-bac program (or just at your local community college) after you graduate would let you pick up any science courses that you missed while overseas.

St. Andrews med school has requirements that are accepted by US Medical Schools. Also Im pretty sure their Bio or Chem degrees will “translate” directly into US Med school
