well initially i wanted to go to med school but i am having second thoughts. I am currently a neuro major with a econ minor(i'm really torn between business and science, i like them both) at Hopkins. Would my science major impede me from getting my foot in the door in the ibanking/finance world? I am going into my junior year with nearly a 4.0. I dont think i can change my major now without having to spend another year as an undergrad. Should i try to get into an MBA program then try to get a job? Any suggestions, thoughts, etc are welcome. Any articles on specifics about ibanking/finance/hedgefunds would be appreciated.

Actually, banks and finance firms tend to have a high respect for science majors. They love engineers, math majors, students who are comfortable with numbers. Your econ minor will also help. I honestly think that with a neuroscience major and econ minor with nearly a 4.0 GPA, you should have a good chance at getting an i-banking job.

Also, some banks don't limit their hires to business-related majors. GPA is extremely important (maintain your near-4.0 GPA!) Also be sure to be involved with extra-curricular activities (especially leadership roles).

I have no idea what a neuro major entails, but as passerby said, ibanks often hire people with strong quantitative backgrounds (engineering, math, physics, etc.) However, if neuro is more like biology, then you might have some trouble.

my major is urban studies, with a pretty high GPA.
I didn't really take any math/econ courses.
Do you think I have a chance then?
