Undergraduate Business at University of Alabama

Hearing great reports from the families of recent grads of the Culverhouse Sales Program for those interested in that side of business:

@aeromom lol…that is for Finance Math majors. That is a tough gig…likely why their graduates often have higher starting salaries. I think our dear @SEA_tide did this (I keep forgetting what he got his degrees in…he was amazing…graduating with a masters at the same time.)

@LucieTheLakie Yes, participants in that Sales program is having amazing success…high salaries, great networking, careers in various states, etc. One Bama mom recently recently reported that her son participated and now has a fab high paying job in New York. I am particularly happy to hear about THAT success story since I helped get that student to Bama (had a hurdle to jump), and he finished spectacularly! (If that Bama mom reads this, I hope she knows how proud I am of her child! Roll Tide!)

Here are a couple of places to help in the ‘independent info’ on UA business school:

Does anyone have experience going in with enough A.P. credits to earn a masters degree in Econ or finance in 4 years?

^ Isn’t @SEA_tide one of those?

My son is one of these students!

He is double majoring in Finance and Economics, with an Quantitative Finance specialization also getting his Masters in Finance (Financial Risk Strategy specialization) as a University Scholar. Unlike Beths Mom daughter he decided not to take the additional 2 Math classes to complete a 3rd major but with the Quant Fin specialization he does finish with a Mathematical Statistics Minor.

He started at Bama as a sophomore in credits thanks to UA’s generous AP credit policy, and began his math sequence in Cal 3, using AP credits for Cal 1 and Cal 2, which I would highly encourage students to do.

He has a social life, is in both a business and social fraternity and hasn’t missed out of the University of Alabama student life, not to say it isn’t very challenging but you can do it!

He is currently doing an internship as a strategic market analyst for a real estate firm in Flordia but getting an internship is NOT an easy task for students at any college. He will be completing his final year in 2015-16 so will soon know how the job market values his degrees !

My older son, who is a Bama grad, was on target to earn his masters in econ, as he started his classes the first semester of his junior year. A snag with an outside scholarship, however, forced him to drop the graduate classes – or risk losing the money (it was more than $22K). He came into Bama with lots of AP credit and finished with two majors and two minors. He is now at UVA Law on scholarship. He did two internships while in college, one for our Congressman and one for NOAA. He spent the summer between his junior and senior years in American Samoa.

I will add that his strong math background and economics degree landed him a research job this summer with a law school professor.

I’m a business student at UA, and while I have enjoyed my time at the school so far and have had some great professors, I can’t really say I feel as though I’m getting any sort of amazing education. I’m ready to start my 400 level Econ courses and have only learned a little bit beyond what my high school econ course taught me, and all my other business classes haven’t been terribly hard either. If you’re planning to go to grad school, then Alabama might be a good option purely b/c it will save you money and give you a good GPA, but if you’re looking to score a job right out of college, I’d go somewhere with a more rigorous curriculum where you learn more!

No slacker he, he went on to earn an MBA at Columbia and works for Goldman Sachs in NYC. Here’s his LinkedIn profile: https://■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/in/heathterry

Does anyone know where the new Business School building will be built? It is scheduled to begin construction in 2017. Don’t really see room for a new building on that part of campus.
