Is the undergraduate program for computer science at Stanford good ? Or is Stanford more known for its graduate program ?

Wow…I didn’t think I would ever see the day that someone would actually ask this question on a Stanford thread…

…I am rather flabbergasted by you posing this question after you have applied to the schools out East and Stanford…wondering about “likely letters” from such schools as Yale and Harvard…

…have you done any “real” research on the schools that you actually applied to? I am not going to tell you the OBVIOUS…especially coming from a poster who calls himself “quantumbyte”…I would have assumed you knew something about the strengths and weaknesses of computer science departments in each of the schools you applied to…

I’ve heard that it’s very good.

Thanks Redsnow

I’ve heard it’s alright, nothing special really.

Thanks megalomaniac

megalomaniac - I’m not sure who you heard that from. I have two kids at Stanford who thought that they were not interested in computer science when they started. Both took the intro CS class and thought it was amazing - with amazing teachers. They are now both going to at least minor in CS. It is a fantastic department - always ranked as one of the top few in the country along with MIT - with great opportunities for undergraduates.

@cba, I don’t want to speak for megalomaniac (but will); I think he was being sarcastic.

^^ Ok! That was lost on me! I think quantumbyte’s “thanks” made me think he was taking it seriously, so I did too…
