Undergraduate Courses Before Law School?

I'm planning to major in Economics, with a double minor in Political Science and Philosophy (and maybe a triple with Environmental Science if I can fit it, I want to be an Environmental lawyer) in an undergraduate school. I want to study law at a graduate school, and is this a good plan?

I originally wanted to major in Political Science and minor in Economics instead, but I figured that if I don't end up going to law school (rejection, change in preference, lack of financial support, etc), majoring in Economics provides me with decent potential careers. And Economics is good if I end up going to corporate law.

So I was wondering if this was a good plan? How important is Political Science actually in regards to a future lawyer? And what about English? I heard from some people that majoring in English will help you a lot as a lawyer.

Thanks in advance!

What helps you a lot as a lawyer is how good your law school is. After three paragraphs, you still haven’t mention the most important factors: LSAT and GPA. You can have 5 majors in college, but that would only help you in admissions if you are on the borderline. Maximize your GPA, whether that means having 5 majors or 1 major.

Well I wasn’t referring to the admissions process. I was just talking about which majors would help you as a lawyer, whether you graduated from Harvard Law or Northeastern Law. I’m not asking “Will majoring Economics instead of Political Science improve my chances into a good law school?” I’m asking “Is majoring Economics and only minoring Political Science a smart idea if you want to become a lawyer?”

Sorry if I was ambiguous about my original question.

Just major in economics. Get a high GPA.

/thread

That really didn’t answer my question at all. :/

Any of those majors would be beneficial. None is better than another. Pick what you like best.

Your question was about what you should major/minor in. Triple majors, 2 minors, etc. are all a waste of time…especially for LS. Pick one major and that’s it. Just focus on a high GPA.

Philosophy is a joke.
Political science is a semi-joke, fine for LS.
Environmental science is a semi-joke.
English is a joke.

At least economics is somewhat employable, if LS falls through.

Major doesn’t matter at all for LS, as long as it isn’t a vocational major (i.e criminal justice, communications). All that matters is your GPA. I would suggest you pick a major that you believe would be employable if your plans for LS fell through.
