Linguistics sounds like something I would be extremely interested in. I'm considering majoring in it, and perhaps studying foreign language to complement it.

What are the best schools for linguistics for undergrad studies? Are any of the following well known for this major?

Columbia
Tufts
U of Chicago
Johns Hopkins
NYU
Yale

Thanks! :)

Languages at Columbia

Chicago has a very good linguistics program. Research is done in most major language families, but the university particularly excels in Near Eastern linguistics.

Although Tufts has a very well-known linguist on staff (Ray Jackendoff), it lacks a formal program in linguistics.

JHU offers a minor but no major in linguistics.

You might try looking into Brown, Georgetown, Penn, USC, and/or Boston U. UCLA if you're in-state.

Thanks! I didn't realize Columiba didn't have a linguistics department.

I've heard that some schools were good for graduate studies in linguistics... can I assume that most of these schools would also be suitable for undergrad?
