Undergraduate Music Composition Programs...

I'm considering a Chicago school called Roosevelt, specifically the Chicago College of Performing Arts. Would anyone care to give his/her two cents regarding the music composition program, or at least any aspect of the Music Conservatory?

I'm also going to apply to Indiana University. I already know IU is spectacular in all areas music, at least that's what I've heard.

I'm also considering Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. Could anyone offer inside tips, pros, cons, personal experiences regarding these schools or others?

Indiana is the top. I know a composition grad and she chose it over a number of other programs.

There is lots of advice about music composition programs on the Music Major forum. If you search that forum only for ‘composition’ dozens of threads will come up. It’s a rare question for which you won’t find an answer - except I don’t think anyone has ever written about the music composition department at Ball State.

Are you a junior? I would recommend applying for a summer program if you can find one still open. I suspect you’re in the midwest. Check out Junior Composers in Minnesota - they have a couple of summer programs, and an online forum for young composers: juniorcomposers.org[/url”>http://juniorcomposers.org/]juniorcomposers.org And there are many many other summer programs listed in threads on the Music Major forum, as well.

If you tell us on the Music Major Forum a little more about yourself, what your experience is in composition, when you’ll be applying to college, and what you’re hoping for in a college program, we will be able to be of more assistance to you.
