CONCLUSION
It's really hard to draw an ironclad conclusion from one data set but you can see that if you want to work for a top law firm in NYC, your best bet would be to go to a top private school that is located in the Northeast with the exception of Duke. I also didn't include a lot of schools because I was lazy so feel free to add to my post Wash U and Vanderbilt aren't even represented surprisingly enough.

MIT: 3
Williams: 3
Amherst: 2
Swarthmore: 2
Middlebury: 2
Haverford: 2

LS Representation:
Columbia: 48
Harvard: 47
NYU: 34
Yale: 20
Chicago: 16
Penn: 16
Stanford: 13
Cornell: 1

I prefer to draw conclusions from the LS representation at Wachtell: obviously, Harvard and Columbia are the top picks for NYC BIGLAW, followed by NYU. Despite the preference of a significant number of Yale students to pursue clerkships, it still does well. Chicago, Penn, and Stanford are the only top law schools outside of New York that place well at NYC’s best law firm. Cornell is gorges.

Cravath Law School Representation

Columbia: 105
Harvard: 87
NYU: 61
Penn: 29
Yale: 27
Cornell: 23
Georgetown: 16
Duke: 14
Chicago: 13
UVA: 10
Michigan: 10
Stanford: 8
Berkeley: 4

Cravath doesn’t allow for searching by Undergraduate Institution, but I once again argue that the Law School that one ultimately attends is the most important factor toward BIGLAW placement.
