unemployed

This past year my father lost his job, the main source of our family income. If I am applying for financial aid, do they take the fact that my father is unemployed now, or from our taxes last year?

Your EFC is going to be based on your family’s 2010 income. If your dad received any severance pay, paid vacation time, and/or cashed any retirement funds, those will count as income.

However, keep in mind that even if your EFC ends up lowish, if your schools don’t meet need, you may not get as much help as you need.

Have you used an online EFC calculator? You should (and have your dad help you since he’ll know if he cashed anything or got a severance).

Where are you applying?

Im not too sure how touse it. But i really really want to go to vanderbilt, boston college,or wake forest
