How does the process work for Unifieds? If you have a scheduled time, how long is it? I’ve been lead to believe it’s like moving from one room to another with auditions being very short-15 mins vs 4 hours (like an on campus audition)?
Let’s assume my D gets a yes from all her schools she’s sending pre-screen videos to, is it possible to audition for 6 schools?
I’ve heard people can sign up on a wait list for auditions, but don’t you need to have applied to the school first? I’m sure there’s a thread to this somewhere. Thanks for answering silly questions.
D had 5 auditions scheduled over 3 days- generally a morning and an afternoon. Minn Guthrie was fast 15 min- all others were at least an hour- often closer to 2 by the time there were parent meetings etc. lots of people do walk ins- and we saw many schools that had them available- but D didn’t want to do that.
Most theatre auditions are quick…5 minutes…you can do several in a day
Six is doable. You may have time for walk-ins. Some of the schools block out very long time periods for auditions, but you’re not required to be there the whole time. (Like if you’re in the first group, you can leave; if you’re later, you may be able to sneak out for a walk-in.) In general acting auditions are not as long as MT auditions (no dance call). Also we found that unified auditions were quite short compared to non-Unified (but during Unified week) auditions. My S did two a day scheduled with one walk-in (and he could have done more walk-ins, we were pretty burnt out by the end of the week when it was actually unifieds).
My d did 11 in Chicago – she is an actor only. On the days she had 3 it was hard and I had to attend a couple of the meetings for schools while she was auditioning, but we managed to shove it all in! Some auditions were really short – Guthrie, UNCSA, Boston U, NYU and some were longer with Juilliard and DePaul being the longest.
Not all of the auditions are at the Palmer House so make sure you allow enough travel time when setting up the appointments. My son was able to group most of his auditions by hotel to keep his travel time, exposure to the elements & cab fare to a minimum.
