Unified Auditions

AMA is at 1601 Broadway. I know that Miami was definitely there the past two years. Good luck!!!!

February 3 & 4, 2007 – New York
American Management Association
1601 Broadway at 48th Street

I had my audition for the Hartt School in NYC early this morning. I was the third to audition that day and it was very well run and very quick. The lady there asked our names and then crossed off of the list.

I went in with my boombox (or in my case iPod speakers) and hooked everything up. The auditors were two men, both very nice. They asked me what songs I was singing and both were kind of shocked by my pieces, saying that it's not stuff you hear very often which made me very happy!

I told the auditor that I had cuts of the songs that were a bit longer than 32 bars and he said that he would cut me off and he did after sufficient time for each song (about a min each). I hoped that it wasn't a bad thing that he had to cut me off, he seemed nice about it.

Then I did my monologue, which is technically a dramatic piece, however there is one line where my character is telling her boyfriend that she would change and what she says while explaining this could be found slightly amusing in a dark/black comedy kind of way. Anyways the one auditor actually chuckled at the part which really surprised me! So I came out of there pretty positive. I felt I could have done better but it was a definite improvement over my first audition. I didn't get a call back but then again neither did the other two people before me, so I guess I'll just have to be in anticipation until April!!

WAIT! I went this morning too....!9:16.
I didn't feel great about it, but it was okay.
Were you there with your dad? or were you the one with your mom? lol

I've decided after doing unifieds Chicago last year and NY this year...that I DONT LIKE THEM! I don't know why, but I get more antsy and stressed..maybe because it's more confined than non-unifieds...I had fun at the Boston Conservatory one though, but I didn't really feel much from any of the other schools I did there.

Okay, one of us is stalking the other!! haha jk

I was the one with my mom, with the red hair and the turquoise green shirt.

Personally I liked the Unifieds, it's in a much more professional setting to me, where you have your appointment go in and and it's said and done. I hate having the auditions drag on for hours upon hours in one day. But I guess it depends on the school how on-campus auditions are done, cause I'm sure they're not the same everywhere.

We're all still feeling a little numb today after the travel and excitement, but I wanted to share a few quick observations after our weekend in NYC. Overall, it was well-run and exciting.

For the most part, my D felt welcome at every audition. A friend reported that one of his schools made him feel like just a number, so maybe my D was lucky, but overall, the schools want to help you be your best. Once she got through the first audition, she relaxed a bit. It was a very affirmative experience for her, no matter what the outcome.

For the parents, there are often long waiting periods. If you're up for it, I would highly recommend starting up conversations with some of the other parents. Normally I'm shy, but we spoke to people from all over the country, and everyone was very happy to share their stories (and their tension) in a non competitive way. We're all there because we love our crazy kids! It was sooo much fun to meet some fellow CC parents and students. Hello to Evasmom and Locomom!

Generally, the facilities were comfortable and clearly marked, and the staffers were very helpful, so the auditions were all you had to be concerned about.

Back to the real world ...

Anyone plan to attend this weekend's unifieds in SF? My D's appt is slated for afternoon-and I do not know if we need to be there earlier for her to warm up-or if we warm up in the car?? any suggestions welcome =)

APOL

We will be there in the AM.

A word about the SF Unifieds this year; Verify exactly where the auditions are. The actual Unifieds are at the Clarion Hotel at the SF Airport. HOWEVER, many of the schools are holding auditions elsewhere and some schools have misinformation on their web sites. For example I was just on the web site of NIU (Northern Illinois University) that states that they are participating in the National Unified Auditions at the SF Marriot in Downtown SF. Well, that’s not where they are being held. In zero traffic those locations are 20 minutes apart. We also planned on U of Minn being at the unifieds because they have in the past yet this year they are at a separate location. We will actually be in 4 locations in 3 days so just a heads up to be sure you verify location.

My s. is singing 'Forest For The Trees' from 'The Spitfire Grill' and has lost the sheet music. We have tried every out-of-print site and sheet music site on the 'net. Does anyone know how I can get a copy of this by .. yes, tomorrow night?
It's more than urgent.
thanks thanks thanks thanks I owe ya one or a hundred.

And Miami's is on the 21st in Chicago -- they have their OWN Unifieds!!!! Sheesh.
I'd have shown up at Fort Sheridan alone.
I need a flow chart.
But what I really need is the sheet music for 'Forest For The Trees' from 'The Spitfire Grill!" Anyone know how to pull a rabbit out of a hat?
HEEEELLLLLLP!

Mamalot -

I have the score - email me. :) (Songs - that's what I do! ;) ) And great song, btw!!!

I faxed it to her. Thanks everyone!

Coach C,
You are a dollface.
Marianne saved my son's petoot!
If it's OOP, as it is, it's not a violation to use a faxed copy.
Thank you so, so much, all of you.
S. is out making the (who knew?) required tapes of him singing the songs plus another song for insurance on another tape....his coach got back from NY at 5 and took son in at 5:30 p.m.
It is a great song and he sings the heck out of it...and loves it.
Hope that Webster agrees....

mamalot,
Hey, I'm a freshman at Otterbein for MT, and I'm checking on it as we speak. In the meanwhile, search online for printable sheet music perhaps? I know of musicnotes.com. There may be a version there. I will also post on Musicals.net to see if anyone can fax me the sheet music so I can fax it to you. Otterbein is doing the musical this summer in summer theatre, so I'll check around. So--good luck with the search, and I'll do my best!
PS Break a leg to you son!

I'll be at the unifieds in Milbrae this weekend as well

Hi Wally and Broadway---we will be at the Grand Hyatt on Stockton for NYU/Tisch...I am surprised to here they are being held all over town-and out by the airport...eee gads...if you plan to be there as well pm me...otherwise...the best of luck to everyone!

My D is going to Millbrae this weekend. What schools are you auditioning for?

No we wont. We have NCSA and Rutgers at the Hilton, Julliard at the opera house rehersal hall and U of Minn is at the ACT offices. Crazy. Good luck to you guys though, take an umbrella!!

I am auditioning for University of the Arts, Boston Conservatory, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, and Otterbein College. U Mich is holding auditions at ACT?
