You are right, @pghmusician , we have a Great Group! However, I anticipate that my drink of choice during Unifieds will be of the caffeinated variety. I volunteer to bring the donuts!!!
@pghmusician if I were going I’d drink with ya!
If you’re budget is tight, be careful where you drink. A friend and I had the most delicious pear martinis in the lobby bar of the Palmer House - but they were $15 each! Quite a bit more than drinks where we live. They were good though
You can come out for the reunion tour Major Cook! Lol. And stress eating and caffeine is not healthy folks! Now a nice brandy or bottle of Merlot…
HEY, I’d be up for the reunion if it was in the Bahamas or something. Chicago in February? Not so much!
I’ll buy a round pghmusician! But as they say in the movie Sideways, friends don’t let friends drink merlot. A Brandy sounds nice however.
Alright, @transmom is buying ‘pear-tini’s’ at the Palmer House for the 1st round. Is that a breakfast drink @vvnstar? Kinda sounds like a breakfast drink. Brandy’s a bit much for lunch. Who’s got the ‘mid-morning bloody mary’s’?
And this is getting far too fancy for plain donuts… someone’s gonna have to step up and get Cronuts, Bagnuts or Dogels.
I reserve the right to limit Pear-tinis to those with no less than 75 posts! (Better get going phmusician!) :))
I’ve discovered some great new Travel Apps. (Well I think they are great): 1) Flightview: Gives you a map of delays and airport problems, lets you input and track all your flights; Directions to the airport; 7 day weather forecasts, etc. Love it. 2) BestParking: Input an address and it will find all parking in the area. Input your estimated time of parking and it will give you a total rate. Saves when Hotel parking is ridiculously expensive, i.e. nearly always.
Anyone else have a favorite Travel App?
Since I am basically stranded at the Palmer House for 4 days I’ll join any one for drinks or donuts. My S has made it clear he does not want me involved in the process any more than necessary and he will call me if he needs anything. I’m glad he is taking the responsibility but I don’t have much to do. Doubt I’ll be going to the golf course or the beach in February Chicago weather!
Apparently MTDad we can’t have drinks until we have 75 posts! >:/ She doesn’t understand guys just aren’t that chatty. Maybe if we just start kissing up to @transmom, telling her how wonderful she is and how insightful her posts are, she’ll cave. Otherwise we’ll have to go find a TV with an NHL game, a few beers and say to HELL with her ‘pear-tini’s’!
Flattery Will get you everywhere. :"> And oh, there are no free drinks within 20 yds of any televised game. And I didnt recommend the peartini, you did. Thats a foofoo drink.
Now I wish we were going to Chicago instead of NY
I’m a limited poster, but would love to join you guys for drinks or donuts in Chicago.
I’m in for the Bloody Mary’s! In spite of my handle, I’m such a light drinker I might as well be considered a non-drinker. However, I enjoy my one or two drinks enormously!
I’m in the same boat as echowits…not a frequent poster but I’m ALL for drinks and donuts in Chicago! And it sounds like my daughter already has a social event planned for Saturday night with a TPAP reunion so I’ll be looking for something to do that night for sure.
@Bogeyw One more reason we’re sad about not coming to Unifieds… TPAP reunion. S would love to see everyone!
See @tramsmom! you made everyone self conscious about their postings. LOL We’ll all get together despite trams’ exclusionary tactics. We’re not arriving till Sunday. Are our kids too old to make ‘play dates’ for them? They can all sit together and chat while we drink… ummm…soda-pop. I saw the Flat Top Grill across the street. Any elders been there before? Looks decent. And the Corner Bakery for donuts is right there.
Reading this made me laugh! We had SO much fun at Unifieds (can’t believe it was 2 years ago)! Y’all sound like a great group. All the talk about food/drinks - go to Miller’s Pub - it’s right next to the Palmer House, food is good, and drinks are WAY cheaper than the Palmer House - casual & yummy - D & friends liked it and so did the parents. Also, I have some photos I took of the lobby of the Palmer House, so if anyone is curious send me a PM - would be happy to share. I took them the day we left (Thursday) so not nearly as crowded as Sunday-Wednesday, but you can get an idea of what it looks like.
Miller’s Pub!!! I was trying to remember the name of that restaurant to throw it in the mix for you all. The food was most yummy!! Also, when in Rome… We went to Geno’s East for deep dish pizza. We were able to walk there after the CCPA audition and walk back to the Palmer House afterward (in the snow). The wait for a pizza is 45 minutes which said to me they make it fresh. Let me tell you it was worth every single nanosecond of that wait!!
Looks like we have a winner. Millers Pub and Geno’s deep dish! Thank you!
And ‘pear-tini’s’ are Not a “Foo Foo drink” … they’re a “FRoo-FRoo” drink!
Foo Foo is the lil bunny that abused field mice. lol
