I'm from South Korea and gonna apply for some liberal arts colleges in U.S.
Union College is in NY and Mt.Holyoke is a women's college in MA.
Which one is better? does anyone know about those colleges?

"Better" seems pretty meaningless in this context. They are quite different. What are you looking for in a school?

FWIW, I'd say Mt. Holyoke is probably "better."

I like Mt.holyoke's diversity. but i've never thought about the whole women thing. i've already decided to apply for another women's college and that's why i'm considering Union. if Union has good programs as Mt.holyoke does, i may be able to choose Union.

What other women's college are you applying to? Good programs in what?

the other thing to keep in mind is that Mount Holyoke is part of the 5 college consortium where a student can take classes at Amherst, U-Mass Amherst, Smith and Hampshire.

Mount Holyoke is also part of the 12 college exchange program with Amherst, Bowdoin, Connecticut, Dartmouth, Smith, Trinity, Vassar, Wellesley, O'Neill National Theatre Institute, Wesleyan, Wheaton, Williams/Mystic Speaport program.

ooooops i forgot. i wanna major in Political science or International relations

hmm...@Consolation, isn't union the better of the two?
Agnes, Mt Holyoke is more reknowned for biological sciences than international relations and politics. You've really just got to consider why you want to go to either union or MH - remember that no matter what a college may 'look' like, the campus community impacts hugely on your everyday life and ultimately how you develope throughout college.

me thinks Union is best

Compare the SATs. Union, CR 550-650; MHC, CR 620-710. Math, much closer but MHC still above Union. ACT, Union 24-29, MHC 27-30.

MHC students are generally somewhat brighter. MHC also can regularly draw on the resources of the 5 college exchange, both academically and socially. Union is stuck in Schenectady, and social life is reputedly dominated by frats and drinking. PR quality of life ratings (FWIW): MHC 90, Union 64.

IR is one of the top majors at MHC, although it is true that bio has always been one of its strengths. MHC participates in the tradition and prestige of the Seven Sisters.

So unless you are interested in engineering, it's hard to see how Union could be considered "better" than MHC.
