Unique application for CAL and UCLA. Chance me please and read my story!

@carotid Well a) I was looking for pity and B) what bring low income have anything to do with that?

To answer your questions:

a.) That’s unfortunate.

b.) I don’t believe that you have a legitimate excuse for your poor grades if it had almost nothing to do with your life at home. Your parents obviously cared about your education, so they spent thousands to send you off to private school where you failed them. If you’re not low income and your parents went to college, don’t count on getting much aid at all considering how the possibility for merit scholarships is already out of the question. Mommy and Daddy are going to have to shell out AT LEAST 20k+/yr for you.

tl;dr CC might be your only feasible option.

A) I meant to say I wasn’t looking for pity.
B) excuse my French, but you don’t know **** about my home life. Just because I’m not low income automatically makes my life good? That’s one of the most ignorant things I’ve ever heard. And even if I have the perfect home life like you say, that has no correlation at all yo what my school life is like.

Also @carotid, you’re an ass for saying I failed them and your entire comment.

Actually 2013

That’s fine bud. I’m being MUCH more considerate than an admissions rep anyways.

You have had much more opportunity than you think and did nothing with it. Good luck.

Carotid, I understand where you are coming from, but I really think you are being cruel to the op. Yes, he probably will not get into his school of choice, but your assumptions are ridiculous. Op didn’t get kicked out of private school or anything, he made the conscious decision that going to public school was the best choice for his mental state. His parents should be proud of him for everything he has overcome. CC is not his only choice either, his grades and story (I don’t consider two mental disorders “excuses”) will get him into some very respectable public and private schools. Don’t pretend to know his life story. He might not have the difficulties that come along with being a low income, first Gen, but he has had his share of real problems.

Best of luck to you op!

Berkeley and UCLA are the toughest. Study their freshmen profiles as a reminder. That said, they do pay attention to unique circumstances, so you might get one of their letters asking for additional information, which is a signal, though rare, that they are still considering you. You do qualify for admission to at last one UC, according to their policies, so if you are not admitted to those to which you applied, you have the option to ask them to place you in the one where space is available. It is true, as someone said above, that you may be able to get better FA from private schools–both merit in some cases, depending on which school, and need-based. Not being “low income” does not mean you won’t be offered need-based aid, too. Your folks should be doing the FAFSA now.

@carotid;
seriously? wow. this may come as a surprise to you, sometimes low income and first gen have it BETTER than people who are high income. i’m not saying all of them do but they have more advantages in the college application process. and high income doesn’t always mean 300k + . we’re not filthy rich either, and believe it or not WE have problems too! :o
You’re a cold hearted person for speaking like that to someone who so openly told you about his personal life. @ sebjrrr i wish you the best of luck!

I think you have a hope

Thank you without username and panda bear, it means alot!

Hey sebjrrrrr,
it might seem like the end of the world if you don’t get accepted into these schools but even if that happens you’ll end up somewhere where you’ll succeed. You’re trending up and will hit college in stride. Just keep your head up at all times. Your chances look slim for Berkeley and LA but the college you end up in will benefit from your passion and personality. Congratulations on getting this far in high school and I wish you luck and continued success in life!

It’d be sweet if you could chance me http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1601346-hyps-mit-wharton-chances.html</a> posts 34 and 37 have some more information if you’d like to make a more informed post. Please be as harsh as you can and thank you!

I would, but I don’t know much about ivy league admission :/

I only applied for three other colleges, USF, SFSU and ASU, getting in and scholarships to all of them. Most likely ill just go to SF state cause its the cheapest and I can live with relatives in the city and intern around the city.

bump, would like other opinions

Also, forgot to say that I’m the president and chief editor of my schools literary journal

I think if you can seriously emphasize your turnaround in an essay, you can definitely have a good shot. Your ACT score is a bit low, you should be able to get around it with strong recommendations and essays.

Chance me?

UPDATE: I received an email asking to fill out supplement questions

You really need to play on your turnaround in the supplemental questions. This will make or break if you get in. Make them understand what you went through.
Chance http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1601533-chance-me-my-schools.html</a></p>

Yea definitely. And it was just for Berkeley, not LA.
