Unique Business Degree

I'm a high school student and I recently made a list of potential colleges and selected a major at each. Some of them have business programs, others just have economics majors. I know for a fact that millions of students major in business every year, and rightly so because there are many jobs in the field.

However, in some fields the jobs must be very competitive, and of course, business majors usually can't start their careers making $50,000/year unless they have good connections. I don't have enough money to go to a target business school, so connections probably won't work so well for me.

How can I create a business major combination that is unique enough to give me an edge in job searches? The majors so far I've considered are Economics, International Relations, Finance/Banking, International Business, Computer Science, Public Policy, and Area Studies. I know those are all vastly different, but I don't want to limit my options at this point.

How can I make a unique choice that still leaves me many job opportunities, considering I have a good college GPA and recommendations?

Good question, this is also something I am wondering/worrying about.

I just don't have the money for a target school and I have to go to a state school, I'm also willing to take the initiatives to give me an edge.

im gonna first say you don't need to have money to attend a target school. Financial Aid will help a little and then take out loans. Use your parents if necessary. It can be a possibility. There are a lot of cheap public target schools ( which are still relatively cheaper then a private school even when OOS). Also there are those target schools give out merit aid. If you have the stats you can attend a target school.

I also have a theory that it would be more beneficial/important to get a great GPA in a popular business major such as accounting or finance and secure good recommendations. Shining at the top at a non target school is not bad at all and could sometimes be better than the bottom of a target school. So don't worry about having the coolest sounding major or most unique criteria. Just do well, work hard, network as much as possible, and good things will happen regarding job opportunities. And if your not sure about business, try to find something you are truly good at and pursue it as passionately as possible. Don't do business for the money. If you do something you love, something you're truly good at, success, even if not in monetary form, will find you.

How well would Computer Science/Economics do in getting me a unique business job? I realize there are lots of careers in the business world, but it's hard to narrow down on one. That's kind of necessary for college though because there are so many majors to choose from. I like the whole theory with math thing in economics, but it just seems too weak to get much of a job. Perhaps if I had computer programming abilities I would be more employable?

By the way, I live in Ohio so my best options for publics are Miami University and Ohio State. Both have business schools, although neither is really reputable outside the state. I don't want to rely too much on financial aid because my parents financial situation is getting better every year, and by the time i get to Year 3 or 4 in college there might not be much financial aid available to me. I can't expect my parents to pay anything for the actual cost of college, only personal expenses and transportation and the like.

I like the idea of International Business, but I'm not sure if I would like all the traveling that goes with it. I haven't traveled much, and traveling is one of those things you sort of have to get used to doing.

I just want to major in something that can get me a wide array of different jobs/careers that will enable me to live wherever I want. I don't want to have to live in NYC for my career.

It just doesn't seem right to major in business just for the sake of business.
