Unique transfer situation

Ok so I'm a freshman at Duke and to be honest I've been miserable here, so much so that I withdrew during the first semester due to personal issues and not being able to acquaint myself with the environment. So basically my transcript for the first semester is just 4 W's. I plan on transferring to UNC chapel hill and enrolling as a part time student (2 classes) in the spring. In my situation would I even be considered a transfer student or would I be applying as a first year student. Also for the transfer credit requirement, would AP scores merit credit?

You need to pick up the phone and call the admissions office at UNC-CH. They will be able to help you sort this out.

My interpretation is that you have ‘taken’ a college course. However since they are all Ws, you might as well do what hm1 suggests and call to be sure (ditto for your question about credits).

If you are enrolling for only one or two classes, you might have the option of doing so as a non-degree student. Find out about that too.

A similar thing happened to me last year. It depends on the school. Some schools consider a transfer student someone who has completed a certain number of credits and others consider a transfer someone who has attempted college classes. Check their website.

And generally AP credits do not count because they weren’t earned at college. Hope this helps!
