Ok. I'm trying to get into the academy via the enlisted ranks...I got accepted for an NROTC 4 year scholarship too, decided to turn it down for now.

-First Generation High School Graduate/College Student (Mom and Dad didn't go to college or high school)

-My High School is really BAD. Almost 40% of students/graduates don't go on to college, located next to Newark,NJ..high gang activity/drugs.
-Always wanted to join the Navy..In fact, one of my main reasons for declining the NROTC scholarship was because I felt I had to "prove myself" to the Navy before I could just use other people's money.

The NYLC stuff means nothing. Don't put it down on an app.

okay, I took it out.

Great Stats. I think you will do better on the Math SAT if you take it again since you are taking a high level of math.

So just take the SAT's again and get a higher math score?

Delayed Entry Program (especially Nuke) looks good on app. It's one of the major reasons why I got in. Should be a good fit with better math score, but I only got a 550 in verbal and that was good enough. You never know.

wait gonavy, did you go to NAPS first or were you a DA?

If you were a DA do you think I'll atleast very very likely make NAPS?

chenama....Umm, I don't care how poor you are..I've seen people like you go to the military to get the $$$, but it's not worth it. Only a FOOL would involve themselves in any military activity during WAR, whether it be some elite military school or the Reserves....Especially with George Bush's crazy a** in the White House...

P.S. - This is so typical...Rich kids go to college, poor kids go to Iraq to get shot up.

not going to iraq dude. my job is operating nuclear reactors. nothing with a gun.

I sure hope not chenama....Because, like I said, I've seen it. Saw a chick that went to the military to get some loot to buy a car, and she got shipped to Iraq...No joke....She can't even drive the car...

No! lol, I sent you a PM. Everything I wrote in there is true.

I always wanted to join the Navy, not so much the Academy (because truthfully, I've only known it for 4 years now), but the Navy itself.
Joining the Academy would be awesome, but the NAVY is more to me than that.

Where did all the other people like me go? I don't think they died in war, but with time.

The ones dying in war now come from a generation developed through Sega Genesis, Teletubbies and parents that sugarcoated everything in life.

The ones that live in war are those that come in with a lasting reason. You go to war for what's most dear to you. Not for what you're told to fight for..your country, your government. I chose the Navy because I want to help out. It may be the wrong war, but it's still my land. My land got bombed.

You don't go to war for college. Why? Because when you die, there's no more scholarship. And that's not my path. Sure I'd love to get into the Academy. I want to get into the Academy. But I wouldn't enlist just to GO to the Academy. That's insane.

Here's the thing man, when you have money, you could care less about this country, because you can always go to another one. I really don't have loyalty to any country.

You're absolutley right, and that's what scares me. But that's also what drives me.

chenama, I see, but even if I were poor, I think I'd rather go to Burger King (to work or some place like it) or take out student loans and go into debt for college, because every night on the news they're talking about how many casulaties there were in Iraq. I doubt I'd go even if I were poor..

chenama, but you have a point. I agree that some rich kids NEED to go to the military because they're SOOOOOOOOO undisciplined. But, kids with deep pockets are rarely going to let someone yell at them and crawl through mud, etc, like in the military. Most of my wealthy friends would rather go to college, so they can live in huge frat houses, throw wild parties, study, and get drunk all the time.

any more thoughts? opinions?

word of advice... these boards are for civilian kids who have their own opinons on getting into college. You need real advice? Go to the Service Academy Boards and than Navy. It wil be less political on the military and more realistic. Plus you may learn more about the Academy that way, or possibly the other Academies. And from what I see right now... you have a good chance of getting in, although they may send you to NAPS. I'm not sure about the correct procedure for applying through enlistment, because I applied straight through highschool, but you should have a good chance

ok thanks, off to the service academy boards i go.

chenama, k314sig09 is right....Some people are trained to love the military and be willing to enlist. But, there are many civilian kids, like myself, who were taught just the opposite. I'm not anti-military. It's just that I don't owe this country s***. My parents pay exorbitant amounts of taxes, and I can only imagine how many soldiers they clothe. We basically feed soldiers, so they can forget about me picking up a gun.

chenama, you can pm me if you have questions about usna
