Univ of Virginia Vs Vanderbilt

My daughter has to choose between these 2 colleges.
UVA is instate so a big difference in financial matter.Did not apply for scholarship at Vandy.
She is getting a full scholarship at VCU.
We are able to afford Vandy but is it worth spending the money for undergraduate when there is long study path ahead.

Appreciate your suggestions,
Mini.

Love Vandy but UVa at instate rates is a no-brainer (unless money is no object).

Virginia Commonwealth University on “full scholarship” based on the very limited information shared in this thread.

Don’t even consider Vanderbilt. It’s not very different from U. Va. and it’s much harder to get to . Save money for grad school!

VCU isn’t for everyone. But many people love an urban campus. The academics won’t be nearly as rigorous.

I agree, as an incoming freshman at Vandy. Assuming grad school is in the future, go with one of the cheaper options.

Thanks so much for all your suggestions.
She got in to VCU honors college with a full scholarship but she’s not interested to go there.

She likes Vandy and UVA campuses but is worried about the social and academic environment. She is prospective Neuroscience major and pre-med (for now) and in really into research.

If med school tuition is in your future, I’d go for the less expensive option.

Hi! I have two liberal arts First Years at UVA both rooming with friends from high school who are pre-med majors. Academically, all are doing very well and enjoying their classes, which have run the gamut from computer programming to statistics to creative writing to Calculus II to Introduction to Commerce to world religions (and that’s just my two). Socially, it’s been amazing. All four are involved in a club sport that has included away meets at major universities and the travel has been a blast. They also volunteer coach a kids’ team in the sport. Beyond that, both of my guys are writing for the school paper, one is a performer in a well-regarded improv group that does campus-wide shows, and both are active in clubs with a focus on politics and media. They’ve also found a core group of friends from those clubs who enjoy hiking, road trips to roller coasters, UVA sports, sushi and game nights. To the extent it’s relevant, neither of my sons drinks, is Greek, or had previously owned a shirt with a whale on the pocket. Everyone is very happy with UVA. And that was before the NCAA basketball championship. (Now we’re fairly ecstatic.).
