International applicant from Brazil here! I applied to Computer Science and Business Administration, but haven’t received any emails from UW regarding my application (besides the initial one with instructions on how to set up your UW ID). I can’t see the unofficial transcript either. So far, I’ve been admitted to the University of Michigan (College of Engineering) and Georgia Tech (Computer Science), and I haven’t received any other decision until now.
Okay, I have been stalking older University of Washington CC threads, and apparently some people received their acceptance letters (through USPS) on March 16th. This probably means that UW does indeed send out acceptance letters beginning on March 15th, and not on some day between March 15th and 31st.
About the “Unofficial Transcript Trick”: it seemed to work last year. Accepted students who logged into MyUW were able to see their transcript (with their major, campus, name, etc.) days before receiving “The Big Envelope”. It looks like UW uploads the Unofficial Transcript at the same time they send out the admission letters.
In summary: decisions will probably be sent out tomorrow, March 15th, at the same time our unofficial transcripts will be loaded into the portal (don’t panic if your transcript doesn’t load, supposedly it doesn’t work for everyone). Until then, I think we will be all seeing that “500 - Internal server error”.
I would just like to point out that the UW (or at least always has in the past) sends out all their letters in waves. So the March 15-31 timeframe is because, yes, some letters will go out tomorrow, but they’ll keep sending them out throughout March, and I assume the same is true for the transcript trick.
@skywalker11 Have you placed Computer Science as your first option? In my understanding, UW will only consider your second option if you failed to be considered for your first one, but you would still have a competitive profile to be considered for the second. In most cases, the second option is a moot point, since you would be admitted as a pre-science or pre-engineering anyways. In addition, direct admission in CS appears to be almost all allocated to Washington State students.
Boa sorte e espero que passe em tudo que deseje!
Do internationals get their decisions by mail or email or both? Also will internationals get by email tomorrow itself or any day between 15-30th march ?
Is there a chance of receiving letters today? I live about 2 hours away from Seattle.
@PentaDad I’ve placed Computer Science as my first option, and Business as my second. I applied this way because I am interested in pursuing a double major between those two fields, and I am deeply interested by both in almost the same way.
@meltingsoull I live an hour away from Seattle and everyone last year got their letters Mar. 16th so I would expect one then!
The pressure is real. My stomach drops everytime I think about it. I wish you all the very best!
for sure international get emails but i’m not 100% sure about the letters
My understanding (called admissions) is that if the student has an international address, they will recieve both, an email and then letter through the post.
So, will we be able to see the unofficial transcripts of we got in starting tomorrow?
@PentaDad So because i was offered to do the direct admit application into engineering (my second choice), I was not considered to DA into biology (my first choice)?
Also, does anyone know when FA comes out? Does it come with the envelope??
I’m pretty sure there isn’t a separate direct admission application @FireBallsDJ … According to the UW website, all applicants are considered for direct admission, which is mainly a way for UW to retain great students from Washington from going to other prestigious universities.
@skywalker11 I got an email about a special DA application, called STARS, for engineering. I read it again, and it’s not the normal DA, but with its own specific curriculums and a scholarship.
@fireballsdj I also received a STARS invite for engineering but this invite is to APPLY to the STARS program. If you are accepted into the UW, you are then considered for the STARS program which gives you direct admission after you finish freshman year with certain criteria.
@FireBallsDJ I believe you are still being considered for Biology. I don’t believe UW sends any “likely admitted” letters – so your first option would still be for consideration.
The UW is somewhat unusual since there are few programs that you may receive an INVITATION TO APPLY before receiving an official admission notice. The STARS is one of these programs, and being invited to apply does not necessarily mean you are already admitted to the University. In my understanding, this is a diversity program for Washington state residents and able to qualify for Pell grants (Please check https://www.engr.washington.edu/files/curr_students/studentprogs/stars/docs/STARS-Student-Application-2016.pdf )
This program has a limited number of slots, so it is competitive in nature. If you are selected to the program you would need to be admitted to UW.
Was anyone invited to apply for the GenOM/Alva program for UW? Do you think it means anything toward admissions?
@cf9882 To my understanding the UW sends many invitations to APPLY to programs, this is genericaly based on your personal information (race, gender, etc) rather than what they viewed in your application to the school (personal statement, GPA, SAT, etc). This invite to apply does not have any relation to the admission decision.
