How is their engineering department? I received a full tuition scholarship + 4,000 a year from the engineering dept. I am from NY so i don't know too much about the school. I am looking into bioengineering; I know their program is closely affiliated with UPMC so thats a plus. Anyone major in bioE at Pitt and graduate with a job offer? I have no interest in medical school.

their engineering program is very good, especially their bio-engineering program. In fact, most engineers coming to Pitt are thinking bioengineering, until they realize the difficulty of it and the job opportunities. All of the programs are very solid, and challenging. I go to Pitt and enjoy it very much and recommend it to anyone interested in engineering and interested in living in a city on the rise.

As far as bioE’s graduating with a job offer, I don’t know many who are struggling to find jobs. Granted, half of the bioE’s are going on to med school. The other portions are either getting research jobs at local hospitals or working for medical device companies such as Medrad. If you are truly passionate about your field, you will create opportunities for yourself in whatever you do, so I wouldn’t worry too much about not finding a job, especially in a field that has so much potential in the future. Hope this helps!

University of Pittsburgh has an excellent bioengineering program. It was one of my favorite colleges when I was looking for colleges and if Clemson didn’t exist I would definitely be there.

PS: Pittsburgh is definitely an underrated city!

thanks both of you that definitely helped. im visiting Pitt on an admitted student’s day in march . scs42 are you an engineering student?

mictedgin- yes, I’m an engineering student at Pitt (although not a BioE). I’m an Industrial Engineer myself, but the engineering department gets most of its national credit for the Bioengineering program. But you really can’t go wrong with any of the engineering programs at Pitt. Hope you enjoy Pittsburgh when you come to visit!

do you recommend living on the SPACE floor in towers?

I lived on the SPACE floors my freshman year, and I loved it. Its a great experience, and it really helps you get adjusted to all of the college work you will be getting. It allows you to live with the people in your classes (for the most part) so help in your fundamental science courses is only a few doors away. I’m still really good friends with the people I met on the SPACE floors.

However, the SPACE floors do shield you a little bit from the rest of the university. You will only know engineers, and not have a chance to explore and meet people with different interests. But after a year or two, it doesn’t really become an issue anymore.

Besides for the social advantages, Towers is generally a cool place to live as a freshman. It is in the same building as a decent cafeteria, coffee stand, convenience store, and a Taco Bell! Plus its in the middle of campus, so everything is accessible.

Pierre, can you elaborate on the bioengineering program at Clemson?

I don’t know much about our bioengineering program but it is still not yet ABET accredited (it probably won’t till the next time they review our engineering curriculum) so that’s something to keep in mind. It seems to be a very selective program. None of the engineering majors have a first year general engineering grade requirement except for bioengineering which requires a 3.0 GPA in a first year engineering program to gain acceptance to the bioengineering major. There is also a combined bachelor and masters program if you have a 3.5 GPA after 5 years I believe. You can get more information on the undergraduate program here: [Clemson University : Bioengineering : B.S. - Program Overview](http://www.clemson.edu/ces/departments/bioe/undergrad/index.html)

how are the co-op opportunities for bioE at Pitt?
