This question is impossible to answer for YOU because the key is getting accepted to one of the very generous colleges. Do you have the grades and SAT or ACT scores to be competitive for admission to the Ivies?
If so…look at University of Alabama. The school gives merit aid to international students.
How much do you need?
@thumper1 I have 1320 sat, 720 math 600 eng, 4.0 gpa.
well i can pay 40k$ for tuition&campus max ,so mostly like 30-10k financial aid
You can pay $40,000 per year? If so…look for colleges that cost $40,000 a year. Start with the SUNY schools.
If you can pay 40K per year, you are not really in bad position. The most expensive colleges will cost at most 68K, and they won’t be so cheap not to give you 28K if they want to accept you.
By the way, where did you hear Drexel has good FA? It’s opposite; It’s HORRIBLE.
@paul2752 one of my friend’s friend got there with financial aid he had to pay only 20k
Anecdote is not an evidence…Drexel is known to have a really bad financial aid in general. If you look around CC forum you will see a number of posts that discourage students with huge FA need from applying to the school.
Anyway, look for colleges with good merit aids. Here are exampls:
-University of Alabama.
-Howard University
I think I wrote the list somewhere…will update soon
please date soon @paul2752
@paul2752 btw my friend was accepted in drexel 2 days ago(international student) he had 3.3 gpa, 1360 sat, extra curricular activitise nothing special , casual activities and he got 35K$ scholarship
^ That’s a merit award. Really a discount.
@paul2752 btw how much does howard usually cover? is full tuition scholarship possible for international students? or close to full tuitiom scholarship
Yes, last time I checked it was. I would call again to make sure though.
@paul2752 wow…! thank you for the answer
Well, a $35,000 scholarship is awesome, but the college costs more than $65,000, so if your friend has less than $30,000 (which is likely), it’s not good :s
@MYOS1634 yea :d BUT STill, many of users here said their financial aid sucks , but 35K is a big deal anyways
Financial aid is relative to need and total costs, it’s not an absolute.
"@MYOS1634 yea :d BUT STill, many of users here said their financial aid sucks , but 35K is a big deal anyways "
@Derpthulu – how can it be a big deal, when the school knows you need $60,000+? Offering the student $35K makes the school look good, but it’s a cynical move since it’s clearly not enough.
I am an international. I had applied to the liberal art Colleges which are known for giving huge amounts of need based aid. However, most of them rejected me and some waitlisted me.The reason in the decision was that I was asking for huge amounts of aid. I understand that these Colleges are need aware, but I really did not expect that all of them would end up rejecting or waitlisting me.
I mean I had high stats, stellar essays, good recommendations, and tons of community service and extra-curricular activities. I don’t know what went wrong.
Really depressed. All the hardwork for the last two years, appearing for ACT, AP’s, subject tests, writing essays after essays, managing extracurriculars, sports, keeping my grades high, running to teachers for recommendations! All gone to waste :’(
I really wanted to do my undergrad from one of these great LAC’s.
I guess if I was a rich kid, I could realize my dream.
Lots of students, who are NOT international, have the same results @neilind. Believe it or not, most US kids aren’t rich. Their parents also don’t have money to send their kids to college.
You, however, have the benefit that you can go to school in your home country with those stats. Nothing you did went to waste.
Read the threads of all of the other students who have been rejected with perfect stats.
@neilind apply somewhere else in europe or asia for example, you have excellent universities in europe and asia. YOU CAN TRY YOUR LUCK AGAIN on transfer GL
