University Fees

One thing about USC that I have researched is that there are a lot of FEES that are not included in tuition. Many of the schools/departments (APSH, Darla Moore - $678, Nursing) have separate fees paid per semester or credit hour, there are fees for language labs. There is a technology fee, student health fee, mailbox fee. The Honors College is $575 per semester. There are also university fees for Greek Life (separate from the actual Greek fees). I’ve also heard but haven’t verified that laundry is not free for residents. Just a heads up to do your research. My son goes to a public university in VA and has maybe $100-200 a semester in fees. The fees I have added up for USC are over $2000 per year. You need to include those in your budget.

I found some of them here:

and additional ones here:

Yes; they certainly love their fees. As you mention there are Greek Life fees above the actual chapter dues. Including one I have been paying for multiple years for a Greek village parking garage that I don’t believe is even part of any of the new facilitiy renderings that I have seen. Doubt it is built when/if my grand children attend…and try to get someone to respond to a question about it. Good luck. Language lab fees. Lab fees for a chemistry class that doesn’t even have a lab. For most majors, you will pay thousands of extra dollars a year above stated tuition.

All good to know.

Laundry is now free. Which doesn’t really matter because your kid will bring home dirty clothes anyway.

Each college within USC has their own set of fees. I posted in another thread that we were surprised in July by the OOS ASPH per semester fee (which is $1300?). Just consider this part of tuition when doing your calculations, especially if you need to obtain loans to pay tuition. You don’t want to be caught short.

The hourly credit fee applies to courses taken over the summer, or courses taken outside of the University. The fee does not apply to credit for AP classes. There is a fee for Orientation, which was comparable to other schools we looked at.

@VAMom23 We are OOS in VA as well, and my daughter got into ASPH. How is your son liking it? She is interested in nutrition, possibly pre-med or PA track, and is hoping that it will give her a good base going forward into healthcare. Since USC doesn’t offer nutritional sciences, it was the closest she could find there that will get her where she needs to go.

@g8rmomk8ans my son is very happy. He is hoping to go for Physical Therapy post grad. He is in Capstone, and has two suite mates who are following a pre-med track.

@VAMom23 Did your daughter look at NCSU? My oldest is there in nutrition headed to be a NP…
She loves the program and the school!!

@UNCCH1 I think that was meant for me. No, she did not look there. I think that she is more interested in schools like USC with a higher number of OOS students. Sounds great about the nutrition program, though.
