Hello, I (as my atrocious grammar will soon reveal) am a US student looking to apply to University of Aberdeen. I would like to go into European studies, however I would like opinions on the programme.
I was also wondering (as the website says either one, but only one will be considered) if I should submit an SAT score of 2030 (Critical Reading: 720, Maths: 640, Writing: 670) or my AP scores (English Language: 5, Environmental Science: 5, World History: 4, US Government: 4). I do have three SAT Subject test scores as well, but Aberdeen doesn't seem to want or care about those.

One last inquiry, what is the atmosphere at University of Aberdeen (lots of really stuck up people, friendlier, constant revision madness)? I feel like that is one of those questions that really brands me as a stupid American, but it's important to be as I won't be able to visit.

Hello!

I’m a current student at the University of Aberdeen about to embark upon a year abroad in Minnesota :).

British universities won’t be as concerned with your SAT or AP scores as we run on an entirely different academic system. I’d imagine they’d be more concerned with your GPA and recommendations from teachers and whatnot.

Aberdeen’s a cracking place to live as a student! It’s a very student-orientated city and you’ll find the locals very laid-back. The students are know to party hard and work hard come exam time. The city is buzzing and the nightlife is good fun! If you’re prepared to delve straight into Uni life (joining societies and mingling) you’ll get on fine!

If you want any more info, let me know!

Unless Aberdeen is run in contrary to every other university in Britain, the exact opposite is true. GPA worthless, SAT and AP scores are all. They need some kind of standard to compare you to and since GPA is relative to your high school, that’s not it. I’ve never seen admission offered based on GPA alone in the UK (in fact most people probably have no idea what that means. Hoping the people in uni admissions will, but not guaranteed).

Look up the Highers or A-levels required for admission to your chosen course. As a rough guide you need APs or SATs in the same or similar subjects as required for UK students.

Cupcake is correct, an American applying to British unis and colleges needs to pay attention to SATs and APs, although British students (like Ultimate Geek) don’t take these exams, these American exams are the closest equivalent to the British A-levels, so that’s what American applicants should take.
