University of Alabama at Huntsville-seeking info

Hello @sbjdorlo,
Congratulations to your son on his acceptance to The University of Alabama in Huntsville and the Honors College. We look forward to welcoming him to Charger Nation!

It looks like your questions have been answered by plenty of knowledgeable people. However, if you would like to speak to a UAH representative about any issues or questions, we would be happy to assist you all at any time!

Best of luck to you and your son!

Thanks for the top on where to find class sizes.

There are still a couple questions you asked that I hope some Engineering students will answer:

Is the engineering dept. decent? Does the small size of the school mean smaller class size, or simply larger classes and less availability of what you need to graduate in four years? Does the small size mean more individualized attention?

We are liking so many things that we hear about UAH, and it seems like a good fit for our daughter, who is looking to take Chemical Engineering. She qualifies for full tuition, which is a big attraction. She also likes the smaller size of the school, smaller class sizes, separate bedrooms, and the prevalence of nerds! She actually prefers the lack of a football team, if it’s not unAmerican to say so. But what concerns me is that the Chemical Engineering profs I can find ratings on get terrible reviews by students. I know that sometimes it’s just the complainers who post, but usually they are the minority’s if the professor is good. If the profs are all about research and terrible about teaching, will D even be able to maintain the 3.0 required to keep the scholarship? She is used to virtual school and doing a lot of self-teaching, but this material could be pretty tough, from what I understand.

What I meant to say was that usually the complainers are in the minority. Auto correct could give it a different meaning here, which was not at I what I was thinking or meaning.

@GeorgiaMom50 These are excellent questions! A large population of UAH students pursue engineering. It would be safe to say when people think of UAH, they think of it as an engineering school, though all types of degrees are available. The Chemical Engineering department is smaller and very tight knit, networking-wise. The classes are small, and for freshmen, offered in many sections in order to keep them small. It is for this reason, students are able to connect with each other and with professors. D will have no trouble getting into classes. Like anything on the college level, the chemical engineering curriculum is tough. However, students have many resources to assist them in succeeding. Meeting with professors one-on-one, forming study groups, and utilizing the free tutoring services are all options open to students.

Tip - autocorrect again
