University of Alabama or University of Florida Academics

I am trying to decide between UA and UF. I will be applying to both this fall. UA will cover all my tuition and some other things (Housing, stipends, etc.). UF tuition will be paid for through bright futures but I do not have any other guaranteed scholarships there yet.

I am wondering if UA really has that much worse of an academic reputation than UF. I am wanting to be competitive for jobs, possibly work in NYC, etc. I am planning on majoring in Marketing and Art (Photography). I have heard from parents and their friends that I could do so much better than Alabama. I have a 3.99 unweighted GPA, will be in the upper 5s weighted GPA. I have over 60 college credits already through DE at FGCU. 34 on my ACT, going for the 36 in June. I have plenty of job experience and internships and a leadership position at FGCU. Most Ivy League and other major out of state schools are not options because of financial reasons. I am not eligible for financial need and it is hard for me to justify spending thousands on tuition at University of Michigan for it to be free at UF and UA.

So which is better in your opinion? UF or UA?

And where do University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke fit into this?

Thanks.

Alabama has about 500 NMFs at any time. Because of their scholarships, they are almost bimodal.

You will find plenty of very strong students at UA who accepted scholarships and are taking advantage of their opportunities. UF is a great school as well.

If you can’t justify Michigan due to cost… I am confused about Duke and UNC (?).

I don’t like it when people say “ you can do so much better than xx.”

A student’s college choice is complex… there are a lot of things to consider such as cost etc. Since both UA and UF are affordable, I would do your research and choose the one you like better. Once there, take advantage of everything the school has to offer.
