University of California Admissions Question

Hey guys Im not sure where this question would go but this seems to be the general category so Ill go for it…[THIS IS NOT A CHANCE ME THREAD]

I am applying to the Ucs [Berkeley LA SD ect] and I am well aware of their infamy in regards to their acceptance on numerical merit alone. I was wondering to what extent this was true. At what point should a UC applicant look at his/her SAT/SATII/GPA combo and realize that applying to the big three[ berk la. sd] would be a waste? I recognize that ECs and other factors play a part in this choice but if we were to assume that an applicant had above average ECs two decent recs. and came from an average household [needs fin. aid but is not in a dire economic condition] at what SAT/SATII/GPA combo/scores would they need to have at a minimum to be accepted into these schools [to moderate to competitive majors ie. econ business premed bio chem]?

Just wondering if anyone had any opinions or insights

UCs don’t accept recs…you can plug your stats into UC Statfinder…the numbers aren’t significantly different if you are OOS. The big two REALLY do read the essays. SD only reads essays looking for ways to award more points, such as for overcoming adversity.
