University Of California Application Acknowledgement

I am a student from the University of Auckland In New Zealand, and I am trying to transfer to Berkeley, LA or San Diego (Berkeley 1st Choice, LA 2nd.).

I just recieved a confusing letter titled "University Of California Application Acknowledgement"

It states, "You have applied to the following campus(es) in the major(s) indicated below. If an asterisk appears next to our campus choice, your application has not been sent to that campus for review. If any critical item is missing, your application has not been sent to any campus for review."

The only Campus listed is:
CAMPUS: LOS ANGELES
MAJOR: ECONOMICS (PRE)

Does this mean, that i havent got into Berkeley (my 1st Choice), but am being considered for LA?

If anyone knows please reply ASAP i am so confused and noone here in NZ seems to have seen one of these before.

Thanks everybody

All that that letter means is that your application has been sent to the campuses without asterisks and they are considering you. It means nothing as to whether you have gotten in or not. Are you sure that Berkeley or UCSD aren't listed but with asterisks? They may not have even recognized that you applied to those two; I would recommend you contact them ASAP.

Hey thanks for the quick reply. Berkeley and San Diego are both missing from the list and i applied to all 3! Does this mean there is something wrong?

Cheers

James

I would double check with each school. Email or call the admissions office ASAP

Hmmm, yeah, I'd check with the admissions office at Berkeley and UCSD ASAP...From your letter, it seems to indicate only UCLA received your application.

Good luck on getting it worked out and getting accepted to Berkeley!

Did you pay for all 3? Do you still have the receipt?

I dont have a reciept for payed admissions because it was all handled by the exchange program at my university. It doesnt sound good does it?

Cheers

James

Do you have a hardcopy of your application that shows you checked off those three schools? You need to call the admissions office for SD and Berkeley and it will help if you have something you can fax them.

Is it for an exchange program? Talk to the exchange program advisor at your university and have them contact Berkeley and UCSD for you.

It could be perhaps that the exchange program was already filled and they weren't accepting apps at Berkeley and UCSD...but they should have notified you.

Another possibility, was the letter sent from UCLA only (like on UCLA specific stationery/return address)? Maybe you'll get a different notice from the other campuses.

I talked to the exchange advisor she said she had never seen a letter like it before. She assured me that even though it only said LA, the application had been sent to all 3 campuses. The letter was a generic University of california letter not from any specific campus.

Cheers

Call each campus' undergraduate admissions office and ask if they've received your application. They may ask for your name, date of birth, and application ID#.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I am going to ring the Admissions office tomorrow morning. I will let you know how i go.

Cheers

James

I rang up and spoke to the admissions office at San Diego and they transferred me to the EAP office. The girl there had no idea what was going on and told me that the letter meant that LA have recieved my application and Berkeley and San Diego will send me an application acknowledgement letter also. I wasn't quite sure about this so i rang the proccessing service and they told me that the representative at EAP was wrong. Apparently the letter is from the Uni Of Cali and should have all 3 campuses. I have emailed a certain person and hopefully it gets sorted out.

I hope I don't miss out because of this mess!

James

^ Wow, that sucks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it works out for you.
Can't the admissions office just tell you whether they have your application or not...You would think they could. Welcome to your first dealings with UC administration.

I spoke to the Education Abroad Program and it looks as if they dont send the application to all 3, they sort it themselves then send it through to the campus they "expect" you to get into for verification. So, it looks as if i'm into LA and not UCB. It was expected. Can anyone give me any feedback on LA that i should know about? I know its the next highly rated UC campus down from Berkeley. Anyone know what its like to live on Campus in LA?

Cheers

James

Post your question on the UCLA board.
