University of California may raise tuition 30%

<p>Yeah it probably did predate the .com boom, but .com boom sure did exacerbate the issue.</p>

<p>i think it might stem from the fact that we already have to pay an additional 10% state income tax that other states (FL, etc) don’t have too…im not saying it’s an excuse, just pointing out that we do already “pay more taxes for those services” to an extent.</p>

<p>Part of the reason why people are so willing to pay the excruciatingly high taxes in California is because of the advantages of our higher education. Once the UCs raise tuition until the cost is comparable to private institutions, people will not be so willing to pay these California taxes and will move somewhere else. Raising taxes is surely not going to help the problem. There is a lot of wasted spending and entitlement programs that should be axed to free up money for education. Unfortunately, it is politics as usual in California and little will change.</p>
