I'd put money down that 99% of the people on this thread will get into either UCLA or UCB or both.

I absolutely agree with Cardinal.

This site actually only made me MORE anxious and nervous from the months of November 2005 to May 2006. I can honestly say I spent unnecessary hours reading other peoples' worries, what-ifs, dilemmas, sticky situations, etc. etc. and it did not help me at all. It kept me awake into the AMs where I couldve been studying lol. Yeah, I'm the master of procrastination. The students posting on this forum are truly the cream-of-the-crop at their community colleges [theyre involved and have stellar GPAs]. In retrospect, I wouldnt compare myself to the students on the message boards posting their stats. I think that would only do you a disservice. A certain student's extracurriculars may help him more because of how he/she will write about it, and show the depth of their involvement in it. I know a couple of people who were in student gov't but they were lame ducks ya know? Each application is unique so dont stress yourself out because some student has something you dont.

My friend who was applying to UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business freaked out when she saw the stats and qualifications of other Haas applicants and she told herself she would never return to CollegeConfidential haha. Anyway, she got in to Haas and is doing well still.

As for me. My GPA wasnt stellar. It took 2 years to rebuild it after my first year of classes. I think one thing that may have saved me was my involvement in student gov't and my essays. My essays were really strong. I didnt finish TAP and I was 2 courses away from completing it but I didnt want to force it. I DIDNT do Phi Theta Kappa either. [i never really understood that club]. Anyway what I would recommend is **writing from the heart, doing well this last semester (As if possible), staying involved, applying for scholarships, and then coming back here when you get into the schools and get advice on things like housing, clubs and orgs, adjusting, etc. OH and for all you UC Berkeley hopefuls, I recommend checking out the Alumni Scholarships.

Even before I was accepted to Cal, I received an email to apply for this Alumni Scholarship. It was due at 11:59 back in February. I spent 40 minutes, and just used information that was basically in my admissions essays and lo and behold I made into the final rounds and qualified to go to interviews. I was interviewed 2 weeks ago by a panel of 2 alumni and last Sunday I found out I was a recipient. So now besides a renewable scholarship, I get invited to certain events to help me network or whatever.

I think those are the things you should check collegeconfidential for. Not whether your GPA is high enough, because afterall, no one here has a definite answer. I know people who got into UCLA with 3.1 - 3.2s. Applications are so unique though that comparing the superficial (clubs/orgs/activities) wont do you any good. Dont add extra stressors to your life because some student from XYZ Community College says something about your prospects of getting in.
