University of California Transfer Students Fall 2007 OFFICIAL THREAD!!!

hmmm.

26 days till I start my essays!

jonhnzen said "Don't worry man, engineering majors always have lower GPA's but they mean alot more".

I hope so, thanks for your supportive sentence. :)

Best and simple rule: Get the highest GPA possible. Period.

That's easy to say, and it's often hard to do it.

Major: Business Econ
IGETC: taking last required course this quarter (lab science)
Pre-Reqs: haven't taken any calculus yet.. planning to take calc1a winter and 1b spring, so I'll be done before Fall07
GPA: 3.71, about 100 quarter units
Applying to: UCLA first choice, then CalPolySLO, UCI, SJSU (signed TAA with b/c I had nothing to lose in doing so).
Currently attending: 2nd full year at De Anza College w/ A.A. degree in Liberal Arts with Business Emphasis (doesn't offer TAP for UCLA...)
E.C: NASA internship in finance dept. (through Foothill-De Anza) (started in Summer06)

and.. personal Statement status: finally started last night, completed questions #1 & 3.

how good are my chances for UCLA?
-THANKS in advance.

you're in for sure imo

You're about .1 under the avg. GPA of accepted students and you haven't taken two major courses. However since .1 off isn't that much, you're still within a "high-match" range.

BTW is the scholars program, or TAP useful for UCLA Bus-Econ? I remember hearing something that it's only useful for entering the LAC college.

BayAreaLivin, there are several CRITICAL factors that will hinder your chance of admisison:

1.) No TAP. There still is an on-going debate on the importance of TAP for admission to UCLA, but the majority seems to agree that TAP really is THE KEY to the admission for the less-stellar GPA prospects. There is a reason why LITERALLY ALL transfer counselors emphasize the fact that "More than 90% of the UCLA TAP certified students get admitted to UCLA". Sure, to the ones with stellar GPA (3.9+) TAP would not matter at all, but you don't fall under this category, unfortunately.

2.) Incompletion of Pre-reqs. Adcoms STRONGLY recommend that you complete MOST, if not ALL, pre-reqs by the time you apply. In short, it's best to complete ALL of the pre-reqs before you apply. Let's say there is Joe Smith with almost identical stat with you (same GPA, similar ECs, same-level essay), but if Joe has already completed all of his pre-reqs, the adcom will most likely choose him over you.

3.) Below-average GPA. I admit. 3.6 is actually a quite good GPA. However, in comparison to the average GPA of BizEcon acceptees (3.81), I can't really say it's excelling. Remember, UCLA BizEcon is among the most impacted major in the ENTIRE UC, and is also one of the very few majors with acceptance rate below 20% and average GPA above 3.80. What I'm trying to say is, BizEcon is an EXTREMELY competitive major, and you just want to be on top of everything you do.

I'm not trying to discourage your from applying, but I'm just giving my honest opinion regarding your stat.

But as a fellow UCLA BizEcon prospect (im applying this fall), I sincerely hope that you get into UCLA bizecon major, because that'd be quite an accomplishment!

Good Luck!

wow, thanks for informing me. most of that information is quite new to me. I appreciate all your insights and I guess I'll really have to work hard on my essay as my last hope (and yeah, I read in the earlier pages of the thread that ucla doesn't care as much for the p.s.) Good luck to all of you too!

How bout me? For Biz Econ

3.79 from another UC with all pre-reqs done by fall except Managerial Accounting

Internship this summer w/ econ publishing company

New job this quarter working at Leadership Center

Business club

Leadership club

Volunteer for Undergrad Admissions

I'd say another high-match for UCLA since CC transfer students are prioritized over UC students.

Hello! Im pretty new around here, but I am extremely impressed with the vast knowledge of some of the posters around here..I know you guys arent the admissions commitee lol, but I was wondering if anyone could help me out with my chances at

UCLA, UC Berkeley, and UCSD as a Sociology major:

My UC gpa is around a 3.64..As of now, I have 2/3 prereqs done, will be finished with prereqs by the end of this fall..and i have one class left for igetc which I will be finishing in the spring. I have received As in the 2 prereqs I have taken so far...
I work 20 hrs/wk as an after school tutor for elementary aged-kids and have been doing so for about 4 years now, do community service at the local animal shelter, secretarial work in the summers, studying abroad in italy next semester. I know my ECs are not that impressive..Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I'm coming from a CCC and this is my second year.
One more question, will my fall gpa have an affect on the admissions decision?

applying as a transfer; should i still list High school activities on the application? its a small community college, so there isnt too many things to join here. i was highly active during high school though.

hey guys im applyuing ot ucla from UCI, for sophomore status, though i have 50 something units beforei started colelge from ap tests. um so i was selecting my campus (la) and when i had to choose a major, i found all of them closed, includign the ones i watned. ***?? doe sthat mean i can't apply to ucla?

ignore my post :/ wrong thread

8 more days till filing begins? How are everyone's essays?

haven't started

Im only half way through the first question
