University of California's

"Jag, which UC do you go to. THe UC's vary greatly in difficulty and selectivity."

I applied to UCI, Berkeley, LA and San Diego. I took the classes at UCI, Berkeley and at a CC, the CC classes were UC transferable CS classes. My GPA is near to 4.0, maybe less just a little bit. I have completed 6 courses, still taking an other one.

I mean my weighted HS GPA is near to 4.0, the real UC GPA is 4.0, there is no weight there, but they have A-,A, and A+. Have got As and one A+.

What courses did you take at the UCs your junior year?

"What courses did you take at the UCs your junior year?"

MATH 2A & MATH 2B at UCI, and a CS at UCB.

In all fairness-
Many private schools accept the best combination of Eng./Math scores from different test dates and UCs only count the best one time score which could make A LOT of difference.
But your point is well taken nonetheless.

I was going to say the same thing, there is a huge difference between the UC's, and how competitive they are. The High Schools in this state are in interesting shape. I know the schools that are in Los Angeles, especially the poorer areas, are in the worse shape. I went to High School in California and never really thought it was all that bad. There is a problem though when the valedictorian of a LA High School has a 3.1 GPA and a 1000 on the SAT. That is an actual case from a school (can't remember the name, but I've got it somewhere in a paper I wrote) somewhere I believe in South Central.

yes all valedictorians in california have 3.0's and 1100's
uc's dont have smart kids because california high schools are all comparable to that one in south central
all east coast kids are smarter and have higher sat scores
and uc's have average sat scores

Valedictorian of my High School had a 4.9 and scored a 1500 (or so) on her SAT, as have many others. I was just showing an extreme example of the situation. Relax!

"uc's dont have smart kids because california high schools are all comparable to that one in south central"

not true. My HS is a good one, many go to Harvard, Princeton etc. with high SATs. Still a pour crowded place though with huge classes. I do not like it. Taking UC/CC courses were better. What I do not know: what is more important for the UCs: my grades there or those SATs that should prove that you are prepared. Maybe it is not enough if someone have completed something, he should be prepared too :)

"all east coast kids are smarter" that is not true, mtb1226. west coast kids are equally as smart but our education system sucks alot especially in LAUSD. this is not true for all schools but in general it is especially in poor areas.

Jag:

with what little record you have told us, you might be eligible for scholarhip money at the UC's, IFF you had higher test scores. Since you are a jr, it could be worth it to you invest $30 in CB's SAT books, and practice, practice, practice, this summer. Given your academic ability, 1400 should not be difficult. Since you are taking advanced math, like many kids, you probably forgot most of the basic math on the SAT, since you had it 3-5 years ago. A few days of prep could easily gain you 100 points on that test alone.

Just my $0.02.

thnx, but I am a senior by now and waiting for the acceptances like most of you. If I will not be accepted - stupid computers might reject me - I will begin to prepare for those things that I have already completed and try the whole damn thing next year again.

hmm, its interesting, that all the brilliant kids here cant detect my sarcasm
wow seriosuly this post is incredibly pointless and stupid

mtb, you're the most biased person I've seen so far on these boards, and you should go back from whence you came.

If you can generalize that all valedictorians have 3.0's and 1100's, then you're either so young you dont know any grammer, you're part of the KKK, or you dont know anything about the California school system.

The last time I checked, UC Berkeley is the number 1 public school in the nation, with more people scoring 1450+ (26% or 6000 of all Berkeley students do this well) than any other school in the world. UCLA admits a fewer percentage of freshman than any other state univeristy in the USA, with an avg. GPA of 4.25 and SAT I of 1350.

The UC system beats any other state system hands down, whether academically-wise, diversity-wise, or size-wise.

You should go back from the place you came from and get yourself educated. You dont even know what sarcasm means, and how to use it.

"wow seriosuly (sic) this post is incredibly pointless and stupid"
You're "seriosuly" incredibly pointless and stupid

"mtb, you're the most biased person I've seen so far on these boards, and you should go back from whence you came."

he is just kidding (or has sarcasm that I don't what is it because of my low SAT score). looks like somebody from SC or just was educated in a newhampshire tech college, who knows.

Just kidding?
Let's teach him what sarcasm means:
"a form of verbal irony in which apparent praise is actually harshly or bitterly critical"
"A generally bitter comment that is ironically worded. However, not all ironic statements are sarcastic. Sarcasm is usually a way to mock or ridicule something, while irony isn't. "
Is his statement is ironical, or bitterly worded?

"Is his statement is ironical, or bitterly worded?"

given my 540 verbal -that you have just inreased to 541 explaining the sarcasm -thnx - I still do not know anything about (his) irony either. But it seems to be stupid enough anyway, I'm quite confident.

Can't we all just get along?

I think we need a group hug.

i was kidding, dont get so ****ed off
bubbles
i want to go to berkeley and yes i know of its rating
first off, grammar isn't that important on a little quick reply
secondly, i am want to go to a uc and i live in california.
i was just extremely irritated about how everyone is raggin on the california school system.
Whoever said the comment about the valedictorian thing in compton is generalizing a bit too much
a lot of california schools are very good

how can u not tell that i was joking, geez

u guys gotta calm down everyone's so hyper
