I have been extremely fortunate to get accepted into both of these schools but I really can't decide between the two. One major concern I have is that I'm in state for UofM, so I'm not sure whether Uchicago will meet my need with grant/scholarships/work money. So between these two schools which one should I pick?

I was also looking at:

Brown
Washington in St Louis
Harvard
Rice

So, which one would you pick between uchicago and uofm, and which one would you pick out of all 6 of the schools?

Go to Michigan for the overall collegiate experience. Cost wise for an instater, unless you get a considerable scholarship, Michigan is going to cost a lot less to attend.

There is no point in asking for advice without having the financial aid offers in hand. Send out your other applications, wait for financial aid packages, and compare in the spring.

Perfect strangers on the internet can no more make this decision for you than they could give you advice on who to marry. You need to make meaningful visits to both schools including sitting in on classes and talking with students. You need to see if your academic interests will be better served at one more than the other. You need to consider surrounding community, curriculum, student life, classroom experience, Greek scene, and your financial situation and needs.

A degree from either school (including dedicated work on your part) will be highly regarded by graduate schools and employers. Good luck!

Well done hk0000! I bet most HS seniors would love to be in your shoes right now.

Assuming the two schools cost the same after your FA packages are finalized, I recommend you go with your gut. The differences in academic quality and reputation between Chicago and Michigan are not that significant, but their campus environments and cultures vary wildy. Go for fit.

If you are premed, are pre business and have been admitted to Ross Preferred Admission or are want to study Engineering (obviously), go to Michigan. If you are undecided about your career path however and want to get a well-rounded liberal arts education or are set on academia, then Chicago is the clear choice here provided it doesn’t provide a financial strain on your family.

Only few research universities can match the quality of undergraduate education that Chicago can provide you when you consider the strength and diversity of the student body, class sizes, financial resources per undergraduate student, advising, the intellectual environment and so on and so forth.
