i recently saw an article in USNEWS that ranked University of Chicago's medical school (Pritzker) above Northwestern's. Is UChicago really that great?

yes. it is excellent, better than northwestern if you are interested in cutting edge research

I'm really interested in becoming a great doctor. Will UChicago give me a better chance of getting into medical school?

Well, yes and no. Yes, if you do well at U Chicago. Going through the process myself, med schools really respect people who do well from Chicago because of its reputation and since they know there is no grade inflation. However, if you don't do that well at Chicago (<3.1), then you might consider your state school instead.

chicagograd,

Northwestern's med school is ranked 20th and Chicago's is ranked 19th. I'd think the difference in "cutting edge research" is rather small. Well, if one is really interested in the MOST cutting edge stuff, one would look at JHU, Harvard, and WashU.
