My son will be applying we are from Michigan so Out of State

He will be applying to the Honors College and entering with 30+ credits (estimated) from his IB courses.

What are his chances at a full tuition plus room and board scholarship?

1420 seems a bit low for receiving a full ride scholarship.

UC awards 10 Presidential scholarships per year to incoming freshman. This covers tuition, room, board + . See this link for a description.

The 2017 freshman class was 5400 students at the Clifton campus. The full ride scholarship is very selective. I could not find any student grade statistics for past Presidential scholarships. Here’s an older link that describes students who received the Presidential scholarships in 2012.

1420 is too low for a full ride but would likely qualify him for honors college and some form of scholarship.
Do you need a full ride because you’re lower income (75kand under for some colleges… Or 45k and under for others) or because you can’t afford your EFC?
Depending on your situation, the college strategy for each would be different.
Or is the dull ride “nice to have” - how much can you afford?
Full rides are very rare and tend to go to the highest test scorers.
At Cincinnati, the fact he may be able to Co op would also reduce his costs.
Hopefully he’s applying to UMichigan and Michigan State?

Unfortunately, your son isn’t competitive for the full ride (my D was awarded one last year).

@itsgettingreal17 : Congratulations to your son; would you mind sharing his relevant statistics?

we live out of state and my daughter had 1780 on her SATs and had a 4.25 weighted and we got nothing. she started UC with 19 credits from AP tests, top 10% of her class, school ambassador, national art honor society, national honor society, senatorial art award.

good luck

The new SAT only scores upto 1600.

That’s roughly 1170 today.
There are some full tuition scholarships for 1450+. Not full rides. Full rides depend on test scores and have become very rare. They’re still offered at FAMU.

@daapmom - there is a scholarship for oos students but for certain states only for $6K /yr

Don’t need very high stats for this scholarship but it is for targeted geographic areas.

yes singermom4 that scholarship was offered the year after my daughter started UC

Does anyone know when UC starts to send out scholarship notices? (Or has anyone received anything yet?) This is from UC’s website, but, I know other schools give out similar dates, but end up sending notices earlier. Just wondering if anyone (past or current) has experienced earlier dates?

“Details will be sent to Cincinnatus-qualifying students in early February. Cincinnatus awards will be made in mid-March.”

I heard it would be the 2nd week of February.

sorry wrong thread

@osumom28 We have not received any information regarding merit, yet. My S was invited for an interview for Business Honors on 1/28. Maybe some interviews, etc. for programs need done first? It is still early though and they do state on their site February.

My D interviewed for business honors before interviewing for the full ride. (Last year)

@itsgettingreal17 Can you explain what she interviewed for last year?

Both business honors programs and she got the top one. Then the Cincinnatus Presidential (full ride).

My son was accepted to UC two years ago. Chose Miami (Ohio) - they are (generally) much more generous with merit scholarships than UC and OSU. Also, the UC FA came really late - much later than a lot of the other schools he had a applied to. He had 4.1 GPA and ACT 28 and only received approximately a 2K scholarship at UC.
