I got into Student Admin too.
When you get into the huskyct.uconn.edu page… are you seeing “Date Sensitive Announcements for Students …” and the Registration for summer session 2023?
Yes, we are seeing that.
I thought the same - but the hashtag is #UConn27 which leads me to believe it’s truly a teaser for admission decisions… I’m dying over here! I’m really pulling for UConn for my student!
They’ve almost never done it mid week. It’s on a Saturday.
It is a teaser. They do it every year like this
Ok so UConn fans - tell me what you and your child love about the school! We are from the West Coast and not familiar with the nuanced details. Daughter wants to go to school in NE and visited and applied to all the flagships. Her Husky for a Day visit to UConn however was lackluster. In particular she had an absolutely awful tour guide and is tried unsuccessfully not to let it influence her too much.
We know it’s an awesome school though and would love to hear folks’ favorite things about it!
Yes, we can see the annnouncements. Do you see anything in the fee bill or fine aid?
Hmmmm…Where is fee bill or fin aid? I don’t even see that as area to click on?
Where else in NE has she applied?
UMass Amherst (current fav but most expensive)
URI
UNH
UMaine
She wants a larger school but just in case she changes her mind she also applied to:
Salve Regina
Wheaton College MA
My newphew goes to UNH and LOVES it… have you visited there? My sons considering UMass Amherst too… Daughters at UVM and loves it… I have heard such great great things about UConn… wondering how they will be with merit though… PennState, OSU, Pitt… all were not great with merit at all. UMass was decent… The large state schools just are not great with free money
In student admin you should see a grid with bursar and fine aid one of the choices. Within each of those you’ll see the fee bill and fine aid details as options.
Yeah I know - that’s another reason why we made our daughter apply to a few smaller private schools - in case she gets an amazing offer somewhere. She’s never wavered from wanting a bigger university type experience though - which in our case means a public school for better affordability (large private schools are generally too pricey or too elite.)
We visited UNH and liked a lot but did not LOVE it. It all had to do with daughter’s perception of the campus vibe. She considered UVM but crossed it off before we had the chance to visit. She just didn’t perceive it to be the right cultural fit for her. That’s OK she can only pick one school anyway!
We are wondering the same about UConn - everyone we know loves it who attended but our visit was so-so. We are also looking at URI - loved the campus, the people its a top choice. UMass we have a child there now and it is great. UNH was a choice but D27 ruled it out as a lot of her high school goes there and too small of a feeling because of it. UMaine is waayy up there, not much around it and name wise not quite the same as the others (I am originally from Maine, half of my high school did go there lol, as well as siblings etc.) Salve is beautiful (lots of girls versus boys there though if that matters) and Wheaton is a nice school but not a lot of anything around it (lived near there as well!) and with your other choices would not really be in the same arena imo not to say it is not a decent school…
Thank you for this. TBH I haven’t heard a lot of great things about UConn and so that’s why I was seeking input. Since we don’t live in the area there is not word of mouth from the locals, etc.
The campus itself was gorgeous and they have our daughter’s club sport and that’s about what we’ve got so far . . .
I think it comes down to opportunities in the major and finances for us. Many graduate with a job. Also, the size allows for a student to change majors. We don’t have experience with other flagships. What is her major? Have you spoken with any seniors to see what their plans are.
We have friends with kids there now and they LOVE it and friends who have been out for 10 years and 30 years and they all think they got a great education with a lot of fun thrown in but even though we have heard it directly from them if D27 gets in we want to do a revisit day to really consider it. My S24 loves UMass and there is always a lot going on, the area is very pretty with lots to do outdoors, tons of students of all backgrounds and interests and active club sport scene (he is heavily involved in one), internships are great and his friends who have graduated have gotten some great job placements (depends on major there I guess). And the food is amazing - we have been to so many schools with our 4 kids and UMass is far and away the best - like eating in a restaurant, very fresh, great choices
So true and she has some awesome choices! Best of luck to her!!
Major is Biology or some other Natural Science - she loves them all so far.
I think her tour guide was a Sophomore and planning to go into genetics and research. But no, she hasn’t had any contact with UConn seniors. Her probably path will be towards graduate school
