Does anyone know if they are almost the same "styled" schools? I heard that they both have really high school spirits. Just curious if they are similar. I know that they are both Public Ivy Leagues too.

Lol University of Delaware? Is this a joke?

deleware is an average state

mich is an upper tier state…honestly life quality in all state school are similar…large classes etc…

Well it seems that they are BOTH on the public Ivy league so I just figured there are around the same. But yea, I was hoping the life quality would be good in both. They do have large graduating classes from what I hear.

There’s no official “public ivy league”. Delaware is an average state school, Michigan is one of the top few in the country. If you’ve been accepted to both go to Michigan.

^^unless of course you are OOS for both and you don’t want to pay $45-50,000 for UMich…

Um, Delaware’s football team’s helmets use Michigan-style winged helmets. I think that’s about as similar as it gets.

top publics are usually considered Michigan, Berkeley, UCLA, UVA, UNC-Chapel Hill.

Go to Michigan if you got in and can afford it.

For the record, UD isn’t a public school in the same sense that UMich is (it’s privately chartered, and gets a lot of private funding, but it does get some funding).

Also, UMich has about 10k extra undergrads than UD.

As a former resident of Michigan and parent of a son applying to Delaware, I’ll try to shed a little light on the differences that I see. My impression is that Michigan probably has more “school spirit”, at least in terms of athletics. There’s nothing like being in Michigan stadium for a football game with 100,000 other screaming fans. Delaware seems to have good school spirit, but just not on the level of Michigan. Ann Arbor is a nice college town, but I was pleasantly surprised by Newark, Delaware when we visited. The Delaware campus is gorgeous, probably nicer than Michigan’s, although in fairness, I haven’t been to Michigan in about 25 years. Michigan has a stronger academic reputation than Delaware, although Delaware seems to be an “up and coming” school. As noted above, Michigan has about 10,000 more students than Delaware, and the cost is about $10,000 more out of state. Michigan can have brutal winters, Delaware’s climate is more mild. Michigan is harder to get into than Delaware. Apply to both and see what happens.

um, excuse me, its 113,000+ fans

Personally, I think being in the student section at Yost is a much better experience than being at Michigan Stadium.

I agree with Mgofirefly - I thought this was going to be a thread about helmets. :)

Thank you hornetdad! Your post helped me a lot! I appreciate it.

Their helmets are almost identical! haha Never noticed that!

Fitz Crisler coached at Princeton before coming to Michigan. There he introduced the winged helmet as a way for his QB to better spot the WRs down field (because everyone else in CFB at the time wore the same helmet). At Michigan they painted the winged part maize and the rest is history. On the team was a guy named Dave Nelson that went on to become a head coach. He took the design with him to different colleges and eventually ended up at Delaware.

Umich ftw!

ahhh interesting Woody!
