I'm a college senior and I want to become a physician assistant. I have been accepted into the five year programs at both U of D mercy and Duquesne U. I have also received scholarships for both, although my scholarship for U of D is double my scholarship for Duquesne. I have visited both campuses and the programs seemed pretty equal. I have lived outside Detroit for my whole life and wonder if I should stay at home or go away to Duquesne? I did like Duquesne's campus more than the much smaller U of D campus, but worried that Duquesne wouldn't be worth the added cost or effort of living away. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Go to Detroit. Live in the suburbs and commute.

You’re a college senior or a high school senior??? It doesn’t seem that you’d be a college senior.

Congrats on your acceptances.

Who would pay the cost if you went to Duquesne? If you have to borrow, how much would you be borrowing?

Look carefully and see how many years the scholarships are for. Are they for all 5 years?

If paying would require a bunch of loans then go to UD-M. You’ll be glad once you graduate that you won’t have the debt that other healthcare professionals have.

Sorry, that was a mistype. I’m a high school senior not a college senior.

Oh? That makes a difference. So…Go to Detroit. Live in the suburbs and commute.

Congrats on your acceptances! We never looked at UD Mercy because the entrance requirements were much higher than Duquesne’s. (I remember thinking they were along the lines of what would be required for med school acceptance.) That would lead me to belive it is a better program. That said, my son and I LOVED Duquesne’s campus. Unfortunately he barely missed being accepted by Duquesne’s PA program and ended up going with another PA program.

Hi: Which PA program did your son go with? And it has been a few years…how is he doing? My son is looking at Duq. and St. Francis, Seton Hill. Just need to know if it will be too difficult and how does a male do with so many females in their classes?
